[Modelling of a combined immunodeficiency state by splenectomy and alloimmunization with lymph node antigens].

Autoimmune pathology was modelled in splenectomized animals by allosensitization with lymphoid tissue in association with Freund's adjuvant. It was found that splenectomy in guinea pigs produces stable disorders of homeostasis and morphological picture of the heart, liver, inguinal lymph nodes as well as a imbalance of the autoregulation mechanisms. The authors obtained an experimental model of autoimmune pathology that may be used for investigation of the pathogenesis of these states as well as for developing methods of corrective therapy.

Animals

[Thymalin in the combined treatment of patients with chronic lympholeukemia].

Clinico-immunologic indices were studied in patients with the B-variant of chronic lympholeukemia (Stage II) under conditions of inclusion of thymalin in the complex treatment. It was established that use of thymalin in patients with chronic lympholeukemia favoured improvement of the functional activity of lymphoid cells, reduced the time of reaching clinico-hematological remission. Thymalin is indicated in the complex treatment of the above condition.

Adjuvants, Immunologic

[Phenomenon of secondary immunodeficiency in the use of antilymphocytic serum].

Studies on immune reactions of the cellular and humoral types in late periods after administering antilymphocytic serum (ALS) showed that CBA mice preserve deficiency of humoral response to sheep red blood cells. Repeated administration of ALS aggravated depression of the humoral immune response and virtually did not affect the survival of allotransplants. The evidence obtained is discussed with due regard for ALS effect on immunity and for the role of diverse mechanisms of the rejection reaction.

Animals

[Characteristics of the immunosuppressive activity of lymphoid organ cells in the process of sensitization with ram erythrocytes and exposure to antilymphocyte serum].

In the adoptive transfer of cells obtained from the thymus, lymph nodes and the spleen to intact syngeneic animals the suppression of immune response was induced by lymph node cells. If the donors were previously sensitized, the cells of the thymus and lymph nodes showed suppressive activity in the adoptive transfer test. A single injection of antilymphocytic serum to the donors of lymphoid cells, previously sensitized with sheep red blood cells, enhanced the immunosuppressing action of thymocytes and lymph node cells.

Animals

[Changes in the low-molecular fractions of physiologically active substances in the tissues of the spleen, lymph nodes and blood serum of rats exposed to x-ray irradiation].

Acute radiation sickness (grades II-III) was induced in experiments on 135 adult rats by single total X-ray radiation (185.7 mCal/kg). A gel-chromatographic study showed that 40 days after irradiation the surviving animals showed a 2 times increase of substances with a molecular mass of 600-850 daltons in the homogenate of lymphoid organs. This possibly evidences their participation in restorative processes.
