Patulin production by Penicillium griseofulvum was monitored with Sep-Pak cartridges and high-pressure liquid chromatography. Determination and quantification of this metabolite proved to be very simple, and our method saved time and a large amount of organic solvents.
In the present study aflatoxin contamination was investigated with 102 peanut samples. Only 11 samples showed contamination by that mycotoxin. Concentration was less than 15-20 micrograms/kg in all the contaminated samples. Aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, and G2 were detected in the above-mentioned samples. No significant difference was found between shell and shelled peanuts owing to aflatoxin contamination.
Prolactin is determined by means of radioimmunoassay in the postovulatory phase of a group of women with mammary dysplasia. A specially increased concentration of prolactin is found in the proliferative dysplasias (multiple intraductal papillomatosis and invasive sclerosing adenosis), that may be considered as preneoplastic processes.
