[The Ca2+-activated photoprotein obelin as a calcium transport inducer in proteoliposomes in the membrane of the T-system of skeletal muscles].

The calcium-binding photoprotein obelin extracted and purified from the luminescent hydroid Obelia longissima was used to record the processes of Ca2+ release from proteoliposomes. It has been shown that lecithin proteoliposomes with incorporated rabbit skeletal muscle T-system membranes possess a BAY K-8644-activated permeability which is inhibited by nitrendipine. The Ca(2+)-activated photoprotein obelin is a convenient and perspective tool in studies of fast calcium fluxes.

[Leukocytic index of intoxication and immunologic disorders in diffuse suppurative peritonitis].

Expression of total T- and B-population, T-subpopulation lymphocyte receptors and secretion of IgM, IgG and IgA were measured in 112 patients with diffuse purulent peritonitis and 81 healthy donors. Expression of receptors was correlated with the disease severity identified by leukocytic index of intoxication (LII). The latter appeared to accurately reflect the pattern of immunological impairment. Reduced absolute and proportional values of total pools of T-, B-cells and T-helpers, but elevated ones of T-suppressors and T-amplifiers occurred in LII less than 2.0. In LII greater than 7.0 there was total suppression of all the cellular populations due to deep lymphopenia. At the terminal stage of peritonitis paralysis of T-helper receptors and B-cells went in parallel with high secretion of serum immunoglobulins.

[Plastic surgery of penetrating defects of the eyelids].

A method of plasty of perforating defects of eyelids is described which restores its cilium edge with a combined bridge-like pedicle and represents a flat thin duplication of the skin and mucous membrane freely transplanted into its wound surface.

Luminescence of Ca(2+)-activated photoprotein obelin initiated by NaOCl and MnCl2.

The luminescence of obelin is initiated by NaOCl in a reaction mixture containing no calcium. The addition of Mn2+ enhances the light emission > 300-fold. Sodium azide and histidine, as singlet oxygen quenchers, inhibit NaOCl-activated obelin luminescence in the presence or absence of Mn2+. This suggests that the addition of NaOCl to the mixture causes singlet oxygen formation (stimulated by Mn2+ ions), and singlet oxygen initiates the light-emitting reaction.

[Destruction of human blood cells upon interaction with detonation nanodiamonds in experiments in vitro].

The influence of nanodiamonds synthesized by detonation on human red and white blood cells in vitro was studied. Nine nanodiamond samples produced by different manufacturers and two samples of modified nanodiamonds with high colloidal stability were used in the study. It was shown that nanoparticles cause the destruction of white cells and the hemolysis of erythrocytes. Possible mechanisms of the desctructive effect of detonation nanodiamonds on blood-forming elements are discussed.
