[Adenolipomas, lipomatosis and amyloidosis of the thyroid gland].

Adipose tissue in the thyroid gland was observed in 7 biopsies and 2 autopsies: in 3 cases of solitary adenolipoma, 3 cases of multiple adenolipoma, 1 case of pure lipomatosis and 2 cases of lipomatosis with multiple adenolipomas combined with amyloidosis of lobules as well of adenomas in one bioptic case. Pathogenesis of this unusual phenomenon was discussed.

[Present experience with surgical treatment of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid gland].

Between June 1 1975 and Dec. 31 1989 at the surgical clinic for adults in Prague-Motol 44 patients were operated on account of medullary cancer of the thyroid gland (MCT). In the great majority total thyroidectomy (TTE) was performed which in this disease is an absolute indication. In some instances the operation was supplemented by lymphadenectomy. The prognosis of the familial type of the disease was more favourable due to the possibility of active screening of the tumour. The authors reached the conclusion that the therapeutic results in MCT can be improved by early diagnosis as well as sufficiently radical surgical operations.

Differentiated thyroid cancer following radioiodide 131I therapy of hyperthyroidism--a case report.

Differentiated (papillary) thyroid cancer was detected 17 years following radioiodide 131I treatment for toxic multinodular goiter. 21 cases of thyroid cancers with previous 131 I therapy for hyperthyroidism were summarised. This combination is rare compared to the incidence of thyroid cancers following external irradiation. This may be due to higher absorbed dose to thyroid in 131I treatment.
