[Study of mechanical work of the heart in patients with toxic goiter by means of electrokymography].

A study was made of the electrokymogram (EKG) of the left and the right ventricle of the heart in 54 patients suffering from toxic goiter chiefly with a marked clinical picture of the disease. Electrokymography permitted to detect enlargement of the ventricles. Excited pulsation of the ventricles with a rapid rise in systole and a sharp fall in diastole pointed to myocardial hyperfunction. Rapid and energetic contractions of the heart led to intensification of the oscillatory movements of the heart in the chest cavity, and to its rotation. A low-wave pulsation with small frequent waves of low amplitude pointed to a reduction of the contractile function of the myocardium; this was also indicated by the increase of the latent EKG time and the paradoxical movements at the beginning of systole. After the effective treatment the EKG of the ventricles showed almost no difference from the curves of healthy individuals. Changes in the character of the ventricular pulsation in toxic goiter were observed already at the early phase of the disease when some of the patients still displayed no changes in the ECG, and no X-ray data pointing to the affection of the heart were as yet evident. In the presence of phenomena of cardiac insufficiency the EKG objectively proved the presence of changes in the myocardium. The EKG data corresponded to the severity of the clinical picture of the disease. Electrokymography serves as a valuable method for analysis of the function of myocardium of the ventricles in toxic goiter.

[The use of monoclonal antibodies in studying the causative agents of viral hemorrhagic fevers].

The most promising trends of using monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) in virology research of the viral hemorrhagic-fevers' agents are related with studying viral antigen structure and with developing diagnostic preparations for indicating and identifying infectious agents of the mentioned pathologies. The methodological specificity of obtaining the Mabs to viral hemorrhagic-fevers' agents as well as data on its practical use are discussed.

[Using AELTIS-synchro-02 device in the therapy of chronic bacterial prostatitis].

The treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis combined antibacterial drugs and physiotherapy (low-energy laser radiation, electrostimulation of the prostate). Treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis with medication and complex two-channel bio-synchronized electrolaser therapy with application of the unit AELTIS-synchro-02 raises efficacy of treatment with chronic bacterial prostatitis due to combined effect of antibacterial drugs and bacteriostatic and immunomodulating actions of the physical factors applied. These normalize microcirculation in the region of the prostatic gland, improve a draining function of the prostatic ducts, allows achievement of good results in 88.2% patients.

[Effect of positive pressure breathing on hemodynamics in patients with borderline arterial hypertension during water immersion].

Patients with borderline hypertension were exposed, while being immersed, to positive pressure breathing. During exposure cardiac output (CO), heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), total peripheral resistance (TPR), left ventricle work (W), blood content of head vessels (Qh), upper and lower lung lobes (Qu1 and Q11), liver (Q1) were measured. During immersion CO and MAD decreased, HR and TPR increased slightly, and W diminished. Simultaneously Qh, Qu1 and Q11 increased significantly while Q1 decreased considerably, indicating blood "centralization" during simulated microgravity. Courses of positive pressure breathing led to decreases in Qh, Qu1, Q11 and increase in Q1, i. e., they caused blood to be displaced from the head and lungs to the liver. Thus, the liver plays the role of a physiological pool which accumulates blood removed from the upper body by positive pressure.

[Effect of water immersion on indices of central hemodynamics in subjects older than 45 years].

The effect of 7-day dry immersion on central hemodynamics of four test subjects, aged 46, with boundary arterial hypertension was investigated. The controls were two healthy men, aged 24. Central hemodynamics was examined by integrated rheography. Variations in blood pressure, central venous pressure, stroke and cardiac indexes, heart rate and total peripheral resistance were measured. The control subjects showed a decrease of blood pressure during exposure (P less than 0.01). Two of the test subjects with a short history of boundary arterial hypertension displayed similar variations (P less than 0.01), whereas two others showed an increase of blood pressure during the immersion period (P less than 0.01). The test and control subjects did not exhibit significant differences in the stroke and cardiac indexes, heart rate, central venous pressure or total peripheral resistance: stroke and cardiac indexes decreased while central venous pressure and total peripheral resistance increased, and heart rate remained unchanged.

[Effect of the model of "dry" immersion on the indicators of water-electrolyte metabolism and aldosterone and cortisol in the plasma of persons with different levels of body water].

Experiments were carried out to study the effect of dry immersion on fluid-electrolyte metabolism, aldosterone and cortisol content in 22 test subjects with varying content of water in the organism. It was found that dry immersion produced a diuretic effect and facilitated a higher excretion of electrolytes and a lower aldosterone content. The test subjects with a higher content of water in the organism (16 subjects) exhibited a more distinct and prolonged polyuria. During the recovery period the aldosterone content increased insignificantly and failed to return to the baseline level, in contrast to the subjects with a normal content of water in the organism.
