[Methods of determining pressure on tissues from elastic stockings used for the prevention and treatment of chronic venous diseases of the lower limbs].

The authors discuss methods and devices for determination of the compressive properties of elastic products in prophylaxis and treatment of the disease of lower extremity veins. The majority of the discussed methods is tedious, and the devices used are characteristic of high measurement error and frequently can be used in laboratories only. The authors designed a portable device for the measurement of the pressure exerted on every part of the body by the elastic products. This device can be applied both in standard and in clinical conditions. It is simple and easy to handle, and the results obtained reflect the real pressure exerted by the elastic products on extremities. Moreover, the authors presented a new method of measurement of elastic products pressure on human extremity.

[Medico-physiological basis of functional properties and classification of elastic products for prevention and treatment of chronic diseases of veins of the lower limbs].

Chronic diseases of the venous system of the lower extremities and concomitant disorders in haemodynamics and vessel architecture are discussed. Data are presented suggesting correlation between the disease frequency and sex, age or profession. There are also discussed the problems of prophylaxis and treatment of these diseases, with particular reference to elastic man-made fiber products. On the basis of the presented data a classification scheme was made; there are also given the work properties and indications concerning the use of various elastic textiles for prophylaxis and treatment of venous system diseases.

[Antioxidant activity of inhibitors of free radical reactions in the dressing materials for wound healing].

Antioxidant activity (AA) of inhibitors of free radical reactions (FRR) (dieton, mexidol, trypsin), aplied to the dressing material for wound healing was studied. In our work we used a model system containing suspension of laminated liposome, formed from fraction of total chicken yolk phospholipids. Lipid peroxidation (LPO) of liposome membranes was initiated by addition of Fe2+ ions. The kinetics of FRR was followed by coumarine-enhanced chemiluminescence (CL). It was found that AA of the inhibitors was determined by their ability to intersept aqueous and hydrofobic free radicals and chelate Fe2+ ions. Their ability to intersept radicals reduced in the following order: dieton > trypsin > mexidol. In addition we discovered unknown ability of mexidol to interact with Fe2+, that resulted in elemination of FRR catalyst. Investigating AA of the FRR inhibitors in the two-components mixture, consisting of dieton and mexidol, we observed the effect of multifunctionality: dieton, increased the duration of latent period of CL by intersepting lipid peroxyl radicals, while mexidol, decreased its value by interacting with Fe2+, i.e. mexidol masked the action of dieton. Investigating AA of two-components mixture, consisting of mexidol and trypsine, we observed the same effect of multifunctionality. In the two-component mixture, consisting of trypsine and dieton, the action of the inhibitors was found to be synergistic. All antioxidant properties of these FRR inhibitors were also preserved in the three component mixture. Hence, mixture components, dieton, mexidol and trypsin, possess high AA, that validates their use in dressing materials employed for wound healing.

[The effect of gamma radiation on the enzyme activity of collalitin during storage].

A study was made of the effect of gamma-irradiation of collalitin samples with doses of 25 and 50 kGy on proteolytic and enzyme activity with respect to denaturated collagen. The enzyme properties were found to change upon storage for periods of 6 and 12 months at 15 degrees C under unsterile conditions. No significant changes in the molecular mass of the collalitin samples were revealed by the method of gell-chromatography after irradiation and storage.

[Transformation of free radicals of gamma-irradiated enzymes during long-term storage].

The ESR method was used to study free radical processes occurring in gamma-irradiated enzymes upon their long-term storage (up to 4 years) both at room temperature and at 4 degrees C. Simultaneously, studied was the biological activity of gamma-irradiated enzymes subjected to a long-term storage. The immobilization of enzymes on dialdehyde cellulose or polycaproamine was shown to preserve their biological activity during the postirradiation storage.

[The effect of the amount of dialdehyde cellulose-bound enzyme on the activity of immobilized trypsin after gamma irradiation and in the storage process].

It is found the complex effect of the bound enzyme concentration on the proteolytic activity of trypsin immobilized to dialdehydecellulose (preriodate oxidation) after gamma irradiation and in process of storage. It is shown the occurrence of three stages of immobilized enzyme inactivation in process of immobilization and storage. The velocity of inactivation did not depend on bound trypsin concentration. The ratio of proteolytic activity of samples before and after gamma irradiation was increased with the increase of immobilized to carrier enzyme concentration and was not change (in range of experiment error) in process of storage. The results were compared with that of crystalline trypsin.

[Use of automated information systems Oncoregistry and Specialist-Oncologist in establishing cancer registry of the Leningrad region].

The paper describes the basic features and structure of a cancer register (CR) of the Informational Analytical Service System which can perform a package of interrelated functions to record and analyze an oncological condition, the status of anticancer struggle and the achieved level of specialized care for those who have fallen ill. CR is a fully independent structure of medical application wherein informational provision occupies the dominant position. The basic function of CR is also given in the paper. In Saint Petersburg and in the Leningrad Region there are all necessary conditions for successful CR operation. The basic software support of CR represents the automatic informational systems (AIS): Oncoregister AIS and Specialist-Oncologist AIS. The block diagram of these AISs and their informational communication are presented in this paper.
