[Specific features of tuberculosis in children having its different contacts with patients with active tuberculosis].

The specific features of tuberculosis and its causes on different contacts were examined. Severe and complicated forms of tuberculosis were found to be diagnosed on all types of contact, which suggests that there is an epidemiological hazard of contact with not only bacteria-isolating person (47.1%), but also with a patient who has been found to have no Mycobacteria tuberculosis (15.6%), as well as with an unknown source of infection (37.3%). The causes of local tuberculosis irrespective of the type of contact were ascertained to be inadequate use of preventive measures for its detection in risk groups, untimely identification of infection sources, poor implementation of preventive measures in risk groups followed by a phthisiologist, disease-burdened premorbidity in children, as well as social troubles in their families. The paper shows it necessary to enhance preventive tuberculosis controlling measures in risk groups.

[The reasons for the ineffective treatment of patients with newly diagnosed destructive pulmonary tuberculosis].

As many as 350 patients with ineffective treatment of freshly detected destructive pulmonary tuberculosis were analyzed in retrospection. The following four groups of causes of ineffective treatment of these cases were identified: tardy detection and late start of the treatment (49.71%); features of the tuberculous process, the extent to which it has spread in particular; dangerous complications and intercurrent illnesses (66.57%); a not-rational treatment of a patient with tuberculosis (85.14%); untimely discontinuance of treatment (38.86%). In a major proportion of patients these causes tended to be combined, which fact is to be kept in mind in one's daily work for such causes to be cleared away.

[The investigation of genomes of some species of the genus Gentiana in nature and in vitro cell culture].

The comparative study of the genomes of intact plants-representatives of some species of the genus Gentiana L. as well as cultured cells of G. lutea and G. punctata was performed using restriction analysis. Species specificity of restriction fragment patterns for studied representatives of this genus was revealed. The differences between electrophoretic patterns of digested DNA purified from rhizome and leaves of G. lutea and G. punctata were found. The changes in genomes of G. lutea and G. punctata cells cultured in vitro compared with the genomes of intact plants were detected. The data obtained evidence that some of them may be of nonrandom character.

[Restriction mapping and variability of 18S-25S ribosomal genes in some species of Gentiana genus].

Mapping of rRNA genes in four species of Gentiana genus has been carried out by blot-hybridization method using some restriction endonucleases. The following characteristics of Gentiana rDNA structural organization have been revealed: 1) interspecific and intragenomic variability of the length of ribosomic repeats; 2) conservativity of the transcribed region; 3) variability of the length and location of Hind-III site in non-transcribed spacer; 4) interspecific variability of the number of copies. Comparative analysis of the constructed restriction maps of Gentiana species and some other plants revealed the similarity of restriction site location in the transcribed DNA region.

[Variability of nuclear 18S-25S rDNA of Gentiana lutea L. in nature and in tissue culture in vitro].

18S-25S rDNA sequence in genomes of G. lutea plants from different natural populations and from tissue culture has been studied with blot-hybridization method. It was shown that ribosomal repeats are represented by the variants which differ for their size and for the presence of additional HindIII restriction site. Genome of individual plant usually possesses several variants of DNA repeats. Interpopulation variability according to their quantitative ratio and to the presence of some of them has been shown. Modifications of the range of rDNA repeats not exceeding intraspecific variability were observed in callus tissues in comparison with the plants of initial population. Non-randomness of genome modifications in the course of cell adaptation to in vitro conditions makes it possible to some extent to forecast these modifications in tissue culture.

[Biochemical markers of muscle tissue during regenerative processes in newts and annelid worms].

The biochemical markers of muscle tissue (creatine- and pyruvate-kinase activities and myosin chains maintenance) have been studied at different stages of regeneration process in newt and annelid worms. The enzymes' activity and myosin chains maintenance decrease at the stage of dedifferentiation and return to the standard under redifferentiation of regenerating sites. In some cases the increase of the enzyme activity during redifferentiation is remarked. The results obtained are compared with data about changes of the biochemical markers during embryogenesis and post-embryogenesis. The community of the mechanisms of differentiation and embryogenesis is discussed.

[Tuberculosis--a global problem].

The author presents an analysis of health hazard conditions with respect to tuberculosis in the world and in Ukraine in particular. It is shown that epidemiologic situation with tuberculosis is getting worse in Ukraine, with the reasons for this negative dynamics being pointed out. Regimes of antimycobacterial therapy of different clinical forms of pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis are elucidated as to recommendations of the World Health Organization. Criteria by which clinical efficiency can be measured were established as were treatment options for tuberculosis.
