[Telethermographic patterns in scrotal diseases. Analysis of the causes of hypothermia].

One hundred fifty six telethermographic exams, carried our for scrotal pathology (testicular and extratesticular), have been analyzed. In 80% of cases the pathological area has determined a remarkable hyperthermic thermographic pattern. On the contrary, in the remaining 20% of cases, the affected area has resulted iso- or hypothermic. In this work the eventual pathologic substrate, responsible of the different thermographic patterns, is discussed, also taking into account the echographic results.

[Echographic evaluation of portal flow].

Authors analyze clinical possibilities offered by the combination of pulsed Doppler/B mode in automatic ultrasound equipment in evaluating portal vein flow. In 60% of cases the system gave informations about flow in right (452 +/- 21 cm3/min) and in left (348 +/- 27 cm3/min) portal vein branches. Measurement failure causes and methods to avoid them are discussed.

[Preoperative evaluation of bronchogenic cancer by traditional and computerized tomography].

The Authors verified the diagnostic incremental data furnished by computerized tomography in respect to traditional tomography in assessing and staging lung cancer. This comparative study was based on eight diagnostic parameters, analysed in 150 strongly suspected patients. It is concluded that computerized tomography allows to give a very accurate judgement about the stage of the cancer, reducing the need of diagnostic thoracotomies.

[The diagnostic value of pharmacologic double contrast and conventional barium meal of the stomach (author's transl)].

The authors compared the diagnostic accuracy of pharmacologic double contrast, conventional barium meal and oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy of the stomach in 922 selected patients. The agreement rate between conventional investigation and endoscopy was 70.3%, while it was 83.7% between double contrast studies and endoscopy. Double contrast false positives percentage (48.7%) is bigger than that for conventional technique (38.3%), whilst the latter has a much bigger number of false negatives, both absolutely (169 cases) and relatively (61.7%). Furthermore the association of double contrast and endoscopy was compared with the anatomo-pathological diagnosis in 335 cases. The agreement rate was 94.6%.

[Systolic time intervals: echocardiographic study of the right and left ventricle. (author's transl)].

Right and left ventricular systolic time intervals are measured in 40 cardiopathic subjects and compared with the respective values concerning 20 normal subjects. The results show a modification: a) of the values concerning the right ventricle in presence of pathology interesting this ventricle; b) of the values concerning the left ventricle in presence of pathology interesting this ventricle; c) of the values concerning both the ventricles in presence of left ventricular pathology which has, also, interested the right ventricle. The AA. emphasize the importance of the right and left ventricular systolic time intervals not only to separate pathology interesting the right ventricle from that interesting the left ventricle, but also, to evaluate the ventricular performance and the stage of evolution and extension of the cardiopathy.

[Echo-phonomechanocardiographic relations of the systolic time intervals of the left ventricle (author's transl)].

15 normal subjects and 23 subjects with cardiac valve disease have been studied. All the subjects have undergone an echo-phonomechanocardiographic investigation with simultaneous recording of the tracings. The values of the systolic time intervals have been obtained from the echo-cardiographic tracings and compared with those obtained from the phonomechanocardiographic tracings evaluating the differences between them. The comparison has pointed out values nearly coincident, providing useful elements about the relations existing between the cardiac sounds and the moments of closure of the mitral and aortic valves. Moreover, the two techniques are considered useful and valid in the evaluation of the left ventricle performance by the systolic time intervals, especially when the recording is carried out simultaneously.
