[Rapid change in the dynamics of antibody-forming cells under the influence of a single injection of various anthracyclines].

The dynamics of the titers and number of the antibody forming cells was studied within 26 hours after a single injection of anthracycline to immunized animals at various phases of the immune response. The specificity of the "rapid" effect of anthracyclines suggests that the low differentiated precursors of the antibody forming cells are the main target for the rubomycin effect and the immune competent cells in the state of multiplication and differentiation under the effect of the antigen are the main target for the carminomycin effect. The study was performed with noninbred mice immunized with sheep red cells.

[Antiviral action of carminomycin and some of its derivatives].

Carminomycin was shown to inhibit the development of both the DNA-containing variolovaccine virus and the RNA-containing grippe virus in chick embryos. Comparison of the effects of rubomycin, carminomycin, 14-oxy-carminomycin and carminomycin complex with bovine serum albumin in experiments with chick embryos showed that the inhibitory effect of carminomycin and its derivatives on the development of the grippe virus was much higher than that of rubomycin. The carminomycin derivatives proved to be much more active in this respect than the initial antibiotic. Carminomycin and its derivatives had a therapeutic effect on mice with experimental grippe pneumonia also on their oral use.

[Immunogenic properties of various forms of flagellin].

The authors obtained and studied immunologically flagellae of S. typhi and flagellins (monomeric and polymeric) obtained from them. Immunological activity of flagellin was the greater the higher the molecular weight of the preparation (the polymer molecules were the largest and the most immunogenic). There were revealed differences between the preparations according to the dependence of the immunizing effect on the dose and the capacity to induce synthesis of 19S- and 7S-antibodies. A sharp change of the immunogenicity of flagellin preparation following gel-filtration through sepharose 2B was demonstrated.

[Production and antitumor properties of carminazone].

Karminazon (13-benzoylhydrazon) was prepared by condensation of karminomycin with benzoylhydrazine. In its intravenous use in the treatment of mice with lymphosarcoma L10-1 karminazon was less toxic and had lower antitumor activity than karminomycin. Karminazon had a lower selective antitumor activity with respect to lymphosarcoma than karminomycin.

[Effect of diuretics (diacarb and lasix) on the experimental antitumor activity, toxicity and pharmacokinetics of the antibiotic, olivomycin].

Diacarb or lasix in combination with olivomycin increased the antibiotic antiblastomic activity and toxicity when used for the course treatment of mice with transplanted lymphosarcoma LIO-I. The chemotherapeutic indices of such combinations did not differ from those of olivomycin used alone. Diacarb decreased excretion of olivomycin with the urine in healthy mice, while lasix increased it.

[Antitumor properties and toxicity of a carminomycin and protein complex].

The properties of carminomycin complexes with protein, a bovine serum albumin prepared with two different methods using glutaraldehyde or carbodiimine were studied. The complex prepared with the use of carbodiimine was biologically inactive. The complex prepared with the use of glutaraldehyde had a molecular mass of about 15 000 000 dalton, was more toxic than carminomycin and possessed proportionally higher antitumor activity and a wider antitumor spectrum. The studies on the use of the method of carminomycin complex formation with antitumor immunoglobulins are promising.

[Radiocompetitive method of H antigen determination].

The authors describe a radiocompetitive method of H-d-monomere determination with the sensitivity of 2 ng/ml in double antibodies modification; this method was used for comparing the immunological affinity of the affiliated H-antigens. A difference between the immunological affinity to the antibodies in a monomere, polymere and the flagellum was shown.

[Effect of microbial and tumor cell adaptation to rubomycin on their uptake of rubomycin and carminomycin].

Anthracycline antibiotics rubomycin (daunomycin) and carminomycin rapidly accumulated in the bacterial and ascitic tumor cells and their intracellular concentrations significantly exceeded the concentrations in the medium. The strains of Staph. aureus and Fisher mouse ascitic lymphadenosis L-5178/P resistant to rubomycin preserved sensitivity to carminomycin. The resistance of the bacterial and tumor strains to rubomycin was accompanied by a significant decrease in the accumulation of rubomycin in the cells. At the same time carminomycin also effectively accumulated in the cells of Staph. aureus and Fisher ascitic lymphadenosis adapted to rubomycin, the same as in the cells of the parent strains.

[Immunogenicity and toxicity of soluble trichloroacetic acid precipitate from pertussis microbes and its fractions].

The authors studied the biological properties of the preparations of pertussis protective antigens obtained by the disintegration of the microbial mass of Bordetella pertussis, with the subsequent purification with trichloracetic acid (TCA-preparations). TCA-preparations proved to possess a stable protective activity and by the ratio of the protective dose to toxic and histamine-sensitizing doses considerably exceeded the corpuscular vaccine. A TCA-preparation fraction with a greater immunogenic activity than the initial preparation was obtained by chromatography on sepharose 4B.

[Immunologic properties and role of the low-molecular component in a preparation of S. typhi Vi antigen].

The author compared the serological, immunogenic and protective activity of the Vi-antigen and its high- and low-molecular fractions; an interaction between these fractions in administration of their mixture to the animals was studied. The low-molecular antigen (the 2nd fraction), contained in the preparation of the Vi-polysaccharide differed considerably (by properties) from the high-molecular antigen. The 2nd fraction, whose antigenic substance possessed the least immunogenic and protective capacity, failed to induce or to resolve the immunological memory, and also prevented the manifestations of the high immunogenicity of the 1st fraction. Therefore the nonfractional preparation of the Vi-antigen, consisting of 80% of a high-molecular substance of the 1st fraction and having the same serological activity as the 1st fraction, possessed a lesser immunogenic and protective activity.
