Wilson's disease in childhood has several characters distinct from those in adults. The progression of the disease tends to be rapid, hepatic manifestations are common, cerebral symptoms related to dystonia are predominant, and tremor is rare. Forty-nine children with Wilson's disease under the age of 15 were treated with D-penicillamine for 2 to 15 years. None of the presymptomatic patients subsequently developed any symptoms of the disease. The results of treatment in patients who had exhibited only hepatic symptoms were also excellent. However, neurological manifestations associated with a history of jaundice or ascites responded less well to chelation. These observations clearly indicate that early diagnosis and treatment are extremely important to ensure normal lives for children with Wilson's disease.

Three cases of traumatic middle meningeal arteriovenous fistula are reported and 32 cases, including ours, reported in the literature are analyzed. In these 32 cases, the appearance of the arteriovenous fistula at angiography exhibited one of three different configurations: type 1, the middle meningeal vein shows a railway configuration; type 2, the middle meningeal vein shows a rod configuration; type 3, extravasation of contrast material and/or pseudoaneurysm are concomitant. In correlating the angiographic type and clinical course, the following tendencies were observed: the clinical course was good in type 1, fair in type 2 and poor in type 3, respectively.
A new antibiotic, aplasmomycin, was isolated from a broth cultivated with a marine isolate of actinomycete, and inhibits Gram-positive bacteria in vitro and Plasmodium berghei in vivo. It is a natural ionophore and the structure of the Ag-salt was solved by an X-ray crystallographic analysis. It has symmetric structure having boron in the centre of the molecule.

A new antibiotic, aplasmomycin, which inhibits growth of Gram-positive bacteria including myobacteria in vitro, and plasmodia in vivo was obtained from a strain of Streptomyces griseus isolated from shallow sea sediment in Sagami Bay. The antibiotic forms colorless needle-like crystals and has a molecular formula of C41H60O14Na. Based on its physical and chemical properties, aplasmomycin was concluded to be a new antibiotic. The antibiotic was produced in selected media devised to relate to a marine environment.

Microsurgery was used for hepatic portoenterostomy as the treatment of biliary atresia in 46 patients whom we treated since 1972. The microscope had a higher power (eight or ten times) magnification. As for the results of the operative procedure with the microscope, of 46 patients, 32 (70 percent) showed satisfactory bile flow postoperatively.
