[The factors affecting the risk for the loss of resin-bonded bridges].

1310 three-unit resin-bonded bridges were examined for their failure rates. After five years 86% (+/- 4%) were still in situ. 64% (+/- 5%) didn't need rebonding. Significant prognostic factors were: preparation of abutments, surface treatment (net retention, silicoating), type of luting agent (Bis GMA) and mobility of the abutments.

Adolescent

[Failure-time and risk analysis of fixed partial dentures].

Statistical methods of survival-analysis were applied to investigate the effects of anatomical, constructional and individual factors, which determine the "life-time" of 4371 single crowns, 1669 bridges and 175 fixed splints of a total of 1841 patients of a private insurance company. After 15 years of service 64% of the bridges, 56% of the single crowns and 45% of the splints were still under risk. The number of abutments and units, location, date of insertion, jaw and extension/normal bridge were significant risk factors.

Adult

[Fracture rate of Dicor crowns under clinical conditions].

Failure-time analysis of Dicor single crown restorations: Statistical methods of survival-analysis according to Kaplan-Meier were applied to investigate the effects of the fracture of 159 Dicor-restorations in 82 patients in a private dental office. After 33 months of service 77% (+/- 15%; 95% Conf. Int. for the mean) of the crowns were still under risk. Fractures were very high in molar crowns.

Adolescent

[Periodontal conditions in patients over 70 years old wearing removable partial dentures].

The periodontal state of 70-year-old patients was compared with that of patients 10 years younger. It was established that the, in part, significant differences in favor of the older patients were not attributable to the distribution of the remaining teeth, the type or support of the prosthetic device, oral hygeine, or general physical condition. On the basis of this study, it was concluded that only those patients in the group over 70 years of age were fitted with partial dentures whose teeth showed a lesser amount of previous periodontal damage and/or were periodontally more resistant. This contributed to a satisfactory prosthetic care.

Aged

[The functional capability of removable partial dentures in various classifications of reduced dentitions].

Based on the functional capability of the prosthesis, 462 removable partial dentures worn by 351 patients were grouped into five classifications (according to the topographical distribution of the remaining teeth E. Körber, K. Eichner and V. L. Steffel, and according to the number of remaining teeth per jaw). A statistical evaluation of the data showed that the Steffel classification provided the most reliable prognostic indications for the expected functional state.

Denture Repair

[The dimensions of cast bar dentures].

The influence of the moment of inertia on the periodontal alterations developing in abutment teeth was determined in 181 cast sublingual partial bar dentures after an average of 4 1/2 years. A significant influence could not be established. A considerable increase in the degree of loosening and/or pocket depth was observed when the dimensions were too small. It therefore is recommended that the minimal dimensions of the sublingual bars with segmental profile should not be less than 3.2 mm in height and 1.6 mm in width.

Dental Abutments

[Caries in supporting teeth with and without crowns].

On the basis of 1718 teeth in 212 patients fitted with removable partial dentures, it was established that the frequency of caries in uncontrolled noncrowned abutment teeth for partial dentures was twice as high and the number of extractions three times as high as in the control group. The special risk for abutment teeth was effectively reduced by using artificial crowns. The concept of crowning abutment teeth is discussed.

Crowns

[Individual differences in the marginal periodontium of crowned and non-crowned topographically identical teeth].

A comparison was made on 191 crowned teeth in 125 patients altogether with removable partial replacements after average wear of 4.8 years with the corresponding number of contralateral uncrowned teeth. It could be shown that there was no significant difference between crowned and uncrowned teeth in respect of periodontal changes (loosening and deepening of pockets of pockets, periodontal diagnosis). Findings in crowned teeth had a frequent tendency to worsen.

Crowns

[Statistical considerations on the evaluation of the Krogh-Poulsen clinical functional analysis].

361 patients, who five years previously were supplied with removable partial protheses, were submitted to Krogh-Poulson clinical function analyses. The test showed no suggestion of functional disturbances in only 12% of patients. Investigations showed that the test should be improved as to reliability, objectivity and validity before being used as a screening procedure in practice.
