[Reproducibility of the jaw relation record].

The jaw relations in edentulous patients were determined with the use of the gotic arch and wax bite blocks. To compare the different methods interchangeable tracing devices and wax registrations were used. This apparatus was alternatingly used by various investigators, but with the same base plate. A quick and reliable survey of the results was possible with this experimental procedure. Our study confirmed the superior reproducibility of the graphic method with centrally supported needle.

[The surface of ceramics covered bridges].

The gingival surfaces of bridge bodies and routinely baked ceramic samples were examined under the microscope with top illumination, the scanning electron miscroscope, and by means of a surface testing device (caliper). The findings correspond more or less to the results found by other authors. Furthermore they confirm the clinically well-founded suspicion that the dull glow, which is preferred for esthetical reasons, does not provide a desirable surface quality. Therefore it is requested that the mucosal surfaces of the bridge bodies be glazed. The defective spots in the ceramic surface frequently found in the transitional area to the metal give rise to the recommendation that these regions should not be brought into contact with the gingiva and that the transitional zone between bridge body and bridge abutment should be prepared in line with hygienical considerations.

[The cast structure after vacuum-pressure casting and centrifugal casting].

Evaluation of polished sections revealed the following: 1. Grain size in marginal areas of the crown is, in general, smaller than it is in the occlusal region. 2. Grain size varies depending on the casting method applied. Differences in hardness were found only to a limited extent. They were not always in line with the grain structure. This phenomenon deviating from the rule cannot satisfactorily be explained. The piping distribution was in accordance with observations made so far.
