The dividing line between dermatology and cosmetology is sometimes fluid. At dermatological congresses, cosmetological questions often take up a considerable amount of time. A connection between dermatology and cosmetology are the therapeutic procedures, now known as chemical peeling, aimed in particular at treating photodamaged skin, and hyperpigmentation.
The internal fixation of fractures of shaft bones was spread out by a group of surgeons working together with Prevot. The principle of this method is a three point load carrying paragraph sign(entry point, height of fracture and cancellous bone of the metaphysis of the opposite fracture part). From 1996 to 1999 86 children with fractures of the humerus, the fore-arm and the femur were operated in the technique of intramedullary nailing. The fractures affected the humerus to 3.5 %, the fore-arm to 65.1 % and the femoral shaft to 31.4 %. The postoperative duration of stay in hospital after internal fixation of the fore-arm in the proximal and middle third lasted 7.2 days, the duration of immobilisation in a cast took 13.7 days. 96 % of the patients showed very good and good results after operation. The average stay in hospital for patients with femoral shaft fractures was 14.4 days. 17 weeks after operation the intramedullary nails were removed. At the time of first full weight bearing the legs showed an average shortening of 1.2 cm. The fractures of the humerus healed without any restriction of movements. Internal fixation is a minimal invasive operation technique with low risks and small operating trauma. Due to the stability a early mobilisation is possible. The reported results in the literature are all good. The only problem can be caused by too long nails irritating the skin.

BACKGROUND: Gram-negative folliculitis is an infection with gram-negative rods that most often occurs as a complication of prolonged broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy in patients suffering from acne and rosacea. METHODS: The bacteriologic and immunologic findings are reported in 46 patients, 39 men and 7 women, aged 16-79 (median, 28) years, with gram-negative folliculitis. Hypersensitivity reactions to various microbial recall antigens as well as granulocyte functions were evaluated. Quantitative measurements of serum levels of immunoglobulin M, G, A, and E, total complement activity, complement factors C3 and C4, and alpha-1-antitrypsin were performed. RESULTS: The gram-negative organisms most frequently cultivated from nares, facial skin, and pustules were Klebsiella spp., Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., and Proteus spp. In all patients, deviations of one or more immune parameters were detected, including lowered serum concentrations of immunoglobulin M and alpha-1-antitrypsin, and elevated levels of immunoglobulin E. The humoral and cellular parameters were not influenced by isotretinoin therapy of gram-negative folliculitis. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that gram-negative folliculitis is not only a complication of long-lasting antibiotic treatment of acne and rosacea, but might be an entity of its own. Immunologic factors may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of gram-negative folliculitis.
Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis is a rare neurocutaneous syndrome characterized by lipomatous hamartomas ranging in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters and affecting the head. Ocular anomalies and a variable degree of mental retardation with or without convulsions are usually observed. This disorder should be distinguished from other mosaic neurocutaneous phenotypes such as Proteus syndrome, oculocerebrocutaneous syndrome, and nevus sebaceous syndrome. We report the clinicopathologic findings of a 4-year-old Brazilian girl affected by this syndrome and review the literature. To our best knowledge, this is the first documented case of encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis occurring sporadically in South America.
This paper introduces ENDOTEL as a new project in telemedicine, aiming to reduce local disadvantages in medical health care in rural areas. The progressing specialization in medicine results in a concentration of experts in few medical centers and to deficits of expert knowledge in rural areas, which remain as a domain of unspecialized physicians. ENDOTEL expands the conventional synchronous telemedical communication, which usually means videoconference, by an asynchronous multimedia communication and its resulting advantages. ENDOTEL breaks up with the need that participants have to be present simultaneously.
