Fingerprint changes in coeliac disease.

Study of the fingerprints of 73 patients with coeliac disease, taken carefully, showed changes varying between moderate epidermal ridge atrophy and actual loss of fingerprint patterns. Of the patients 63 had these abnormalities, compared with 3 out of 485 controls. A high degree of correlation existed between ridge atrophy and changes in the clinical state of patients with coeliac disease.

Management of the child with cystic fibrosis.

The association between salty skin and early death has been recognized since medieval times but the first description of cystic fibrosis was not published until 1938 by Anderson. Over teh last 53 years attitudes to the disease have changed radically and modern aggressive care involving a wide variety of professionals has contributed to the improved life expectancy.

Dental practices that aid the general practitioner and forensic dentist.

There are practices that improve the efficiency of a general dentistry office and may aid a forensic dentist in making an identification. These practices include maintaining current dental charts, using the accepted post-mortem charting nomenclature, and maintaining quality radiographs as well as complete and legible progress notes.
