[The distribution of 4 genes (alpha GAL, PGK-1, HPRT and G6PD) on the X chromosome of the American mink (Mustela vison)].

The segregation of X-linked markers (alpha GAL, PGK-1, HPRT and G6PD) was analysed in hybrids between gamma ray-irradiated mink fibroblasts and Chinese hamster cells, or between mink cells and mouse hepatoma cells. Based on the segregation data and the data of cytogenetics analysis of a few hybrids, the order of the mink genes was deduced as alpha GAL--PGK-1--HPRT--G6PD--qter. This order differs from that reported for human and murine genes, in spite of the very obvious similarity between G-banding of the mink and human X chromosomes. Therefore, at least one reversion is responsible for the differences observed for the human and mink X chromosomes.

[Genome mapping of the silver fox. I. Determination of the chromosomal location of 8 fox genes and the search for homologous regions on fox and human chromosomes].

Twenty-three silver fox-Chinese hamster somatic cell hybrids were analysed for the expression of fox enzyme loci and the segregation of fox chromosomes. This analysis made it possible to assign the gene PGD to chromosome 2, MDH2 to chromosome 3. NP to chromosome 10. APRT, ENO1, PGM1 to chromosome 12, MDH1 and IDH1 to chromosome 16. Possible use of the above-mentioned clone panel for fox gene mapping is analysed. An attempt to reveal homologous regions on fox and human chromosomes was made by comparative analysis of prometaphase fox and human chromosomes containing the homologous genes. The means and perspectives of verification of the hypothesis proposed are discussed.

[Localization of the gene coding for adenine phosphoribosyltransferase on the genetic map of chromosome 8 in the mouse].

Polymorphism of electrophoretic mobility of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase (APRT) was found in a population of domestic mice, Mus musculus bactrianus. The Aprt gene was mapped using two markers: plasma esterase 1 coded by the gene Es-1 situated at the distance of 26 morgans from the centromere, and a Robertsonian translocation Rb (8.17) 1 Iem which marks the centromere. The results of linkage analysis permitted to localize the gene Aprt at 51 morgans from the centromere, and 25 morgans distal from the gene Es-1 on the genetic map of chromosome 8. It is found that emotional stress does not alter the recombination rate at chromosome 8, when spermatocytes are at the pachytene stage.

Adenine Phosphoribosyltransferase↗

Assignment of the gene for adenine phosphoribosyltransferase on the genetic map of mouse chromosome 8.

Two electrophoretic variants of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase (APRT) were identified in a population of wild mice (Mus musculus bactrianus). Breeding tests demonstrated that the APRT variants are under the control of two alleles at an autosomal locus designated Aprt. We have examined the linkage relationships between Aprt and the markers of chromosome 8 including esterase-1 and the centromere. The recombination distance between the centromere and Aprt is 44 +/- 7 cM, and that between Es-1 and Aprt is 25 +/- 2 cM, i.e., the probable order of the markers examined is cen-Es-1-Aprt on chromosome 8.

[Creation of a clone panel of fox x Chinese hamster somatic cell hybrids and chromosome mapping of genes for LDHA, LDHB, GPI, ESD, G6PD, HPRT, alpha-GALA in the silver fox].

A clone panel of fox-hamster somatic cell hybrids which can be used for fox gene mapping was set up. Analysis of patterns of chromosome-enzyme segregation made it possible to assign gene GPI to chromosome 1, LDHA to chromosome 11, LDHB to chromosome 8, ESD to chromosome 6 and G6PD, HPRT, alpha-GALA to chromosome X.

[Gene for structural proteins of the SMC family in the common vole Microtus arvalis].

Genes for four subfamilies of SMC (structural maintenance of chromosomes) proteins have been isolated from the genome of a common vole Microtus arvalis. The high degree of homology between representatives of each SMC protein subfamily of different classes of organisms has been demonstrated. The full-sized copy of a mammalian gene encoding SMC4 protein has been isolated and analyzed for the first time. The SMC proteins enter into the composition of complexes responsible for cohesion of sister chromatids, formation of mitotic chromosomes, recombination, DNA repair, and regulation of gene expression. We discuss the possible participation of the SMC proteins in inactivation of the X chromosome in mammalian females. Common voles of genus Microtus group "arvalis" serve a unique model for the study of the inactivation process.
