This study was undertaken to ascertain whether or not a nephritis strain-associated protein (NSAP) is produced by Streptococcus pyogenes strain Su, which is used in OK-432, an antitumor agent. SDS-PAGE and double immunodiffusion analysis showed that no NSAP occurred in the extracellular product of S. pyogenes strain Su.

The presence of antibodies against adult T cell leukemia antigen (ATLA) was studied in 59 patients with chronic respiratory diseases. Of 13 patients with diffuse panbronchiolitis, 3, who developed adult T cell leukemia, had the anti-ATLA antibody and 8 had the related, anti-ATLA-like antibody. Of 13 cases of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, 8 had the anti-ATLA-like antibody. Except for only one case, these antibodies were not detected in 33 patients with bronchial asthma or sarcoidosis and 20 healthy adults examined. These results suggested that the test of these antibodies would be useful for the diagnosis of diffuse panbronchiolitis and idiopathic interstitial pneumonia which frequently develop lung cancers.

A case of soft vesical calculi is reported. A 72-year-old male, visited our clinic complaining of discharge of white muddy substance. KUB film revealed calcification in the vesical region. Urinalysis showed UTI, and culture of urine was positive for Proteus mirabilis. Thereafter, the patient suffered from discharges of similar calculi several times. Two of three infrared spectroscopic charts showed mixture of calcium phosphate and ammonium hydrogen urate and that of the remaining disclosed magnesium ammonium phosphate. An alcian blue-PAS double staining of this calculus revealed the presence of acid and neutral glycosaminoglycans, and bacterial colonies. These calculi were thought to be different from the so called 'matrix calculi'.
