Reframing outcomes: enhancing personhood.
The concept of "enhancing personhood" is a key aspect of the theory of nursing as caring. It is tenuously, though importantly, related to the currently popular notion of outcomes of care. While the standard connotation of outcomes as discrete economic results or end products of nursing care is incongruent with nursing as caring, the ethical professional practice of nursing requires attention to value. This article presents a theoretically congruent reconceptualization of valuing of advanced practice nursing. It offers a model for reframing the concept of outcomes within the theoretical context of enhancing personhood.
