Collaborative research: a community approach.

Collaborative nursing research is an effective means to increase research productivity. The essentials of collaborative research are contribution, communication, commitment, consensus, compatibility, and a cohesive approach toward a positive outcome. The purpose of the demonstration project was to describe a collaborative process in one community, culminating in a research utilization study and development of nursing standards pertaining to an aggregate population of patients.

Peripherally inserted central catheter program.

The peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is a safe and less costly option to centrally inserted, tunneled, or implanted central vascular access devices. Support for PICC services and reports of results vary among organizations. A comprehensive PICC Program, guided by the Center for Advanced Nursing Practice's Evidence-Based Practice Model, was designed and implemented with successful outcomes. Key program components include administrative, education, clinical practice, and data monitoring to enhance best practice.

Selection and implementation of a transparent dressing for central vascular access devices.

The selection of new central venous access devices (CVADs), line dressing, and nursing clinical practices was guided by the Center for Advanced Nursing Practice's Evidence-Based Practice Model. The model's evidence-triggered, evidence-supported, evidence-observed, and evidence-based phases provided structure that guided a systematic process in which best practice was incorporated into the clinical setting, based on clinician insights, evaluation of authoritative literature, and examination of three CVAD dressings as an intervention using various study methods. This article discusses study findings, recommendations, and implications for nursing practice. CVAD dressing integrity has clinical practice applicability in multiple settings along the care continuum.
