[A simple and effective method of the treatment of habitual shoulder dislocation].

The authors propose a method of surgical treatment of habitual dislocation of the shoulder which consists in partial section of the subscapular muscle tendon in 1/2 of its diameter and inserting the long head tendon of the musculus biceps brachii inke is fixed to the humerus by trans-osseous+ sutures. The operation was performed in 207 patients. The observation terms in 181 patients exceed 2 years, and in 26 patients they are less than 2 years. The relapses of the dislocation have been observed in 3 (1.6%) patients, in 2 of them they occurred 5 and 8 years after severe injuries.

[Various problems of the treatment of patients with medial fractures of the femur neck].

There are many problems that remain unsolved in the treatment of the patients with medial fractures of the femoral neck. The authors present their results of treatment of 543 patients with this pathology and give recommendations concerning the necessity of using mainly the surgical method of treatment at the early posttraumatic period, the choice of the methods of rational anaesthesiologic aid and the advisability of an early activization of the patients at the postoperative period.

[Late results of plastic surgery of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint using a lavsan endoprosthesis].

In 1964-1986 774 reconstruction-and-restoration operations for injuries of the bursal and ligamental apparatus of the knee joint were performed, in 588 of this number lavsan endoprostheses were used. Clinical and roentgenologic analysis of the long-term results of endoprosthetics of the anterior cruciate ligament was made in 72 patients with a follow-up period of 10-23 years. The results were good in 54 patients (75%) satisfactory in 8 patients (11.1%) and not satisfactory in 10 patients (13.9%). In 28 of 31 patients with a follow-up period of 20 years and more the results were good. When the operation technique is observed, lavsan vascular endoprostheses and bands may remain and function as the cruciate ligaments of the knee joints for over 2 decades. The long-term results in such cases exceed those after the traditional auto- and alloplasties.

[Normalization of bone regeneration by oxygen barotherapy].

Experimental studies in 60 rabbits with defects of the radius have shown that exposure to oxygenobarotherapy results in the greatest activization of osteoreparation in the early period after trauma with the formation of osseous matrix. The intensity of OBT sessions should be reduced along with the "maturation" of the osseous regenerate. The clinical application of OBT in 33 patients with defects of long tubular bones contributed to shortening the terms of rehabilitation of such patients.

[Development of traumatology and orthopedics during the 70-year period of the Soviet rule].

The article elucidates the development of soviet traumatology and orthopedy. There appeared institutes, chairs at medical institutes and institutes for advanced postgraduate training. A network of ambulatory medical institutions and hospitals has been created in rural regions and towns. Scientific societies and Journal "Orthopedy, Traumatology and Prostheses" have made great contribution in the development of traumatology and orthopedy.
