Pilosebaceous abnormalities in Apert type acrocephalosyndactyly.

Forearm acne is uncommon in the general population and comedones and pustules are rare. Forearm acne was observed in more than 70% of the Apert syndrome patients suggesting that steroid sensitivity of certain tissue and organs and tissue disposition of androgens may be fruitful areas for investigation in the Apert syndrome.

Cleft uvula: a microform of facial clefts and its genetic basis.

Prevalence estimates of cleft uvula (CU) in two Amerindian populations (and sib analyses in one) were obtained and compared with estimates from other racial groups. The data and their analyses support the contention that CU is a microform of facial clefts. The relative and parallel frequencies of facial and uvula clefts in different races and the sib analyses are most consistent with a quasicontinuous polygenic basis for facial clefts and their microforms.

Twins with Pierre Robin syndrome.

An increasing number of case reports have drawn attention to the familial occurrence of the Pierre Robin syndrome. Postmortem studies on male twins concordant for the syndrome are reported. In addition to the triad of micrognathia, cleft palate and glossoptosis, both twins presented low-set malformed ears. Roentgencephalometric measurements suggested that the extreme micrognathia present in the twins precluded survival. An older sib with similar deformities also died in infancy.
