Morphological studies on liver lymphatics.

Form, distribution and structure of liver lymphatics were studied in pig, calf, kid, dog, rabbit and human using both light and electron microscopes. The relation of the lymphatics to both blood vessel and connective tissue was the same throughout the material. The lymphatic capillaries were supported by a lattice of the coarse bundles, composed of collagenous fibers. The endothelial cells of the lymphatic capillaries lying in the meshes of the lattice showed a marked change in the volume and a phagocytotic activity. The results were discussed in relation to the function.

Microlymphangiographic study of lymphatic regeneration following intestinal anastomosis.

Using a technique of intestinal microlymphangiography, the canine intestinal lymphatic system was studied. Appearance of a two dimentional network above the muscularis mucosa layer was found to be characteristic. A study of the lymphatic regeneration pattern of the intestinal anastomosis showed a cross circulation through newly reconstructed lymphatics to commence on the seventh postoperative day and to be completed by the 21st day.

Regeneration of the deep cervical lymphatics--light and electron microscopic observations.

Regeneration of the lymphatic vessels following ligation of the deep cervical lymphatics was studied in 35 rabbits using both light and electron microscopes. The newly formed lymphatics were evident under the electron microscope in the first post-operative week, in which the restoration of the affected endothelial cells of the lymphatics and reaction of the free cells such as fibroblasts and macrophages were observed.
