Shade modification of porcelain restorations.
The described technique of using surface stains to modify shade can often salvage porcelain restorations which might otherwise be unacceptable. The chart (Fig. 2), if placed in the stain kit, can be helpful during chair-side staining.

Repair technique for porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations.
A technique has been described which can be used to repair many fractured porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations. The primary advantage of this technique is that it can salvage many restorations which might otherwise require remaking to achieve a satisfactory esthetic result. The disadvantage of the technique is its lack of universal application. There are situations which, due to the nature of the fracture or the framework, are not suitable for this repair technique.

Teaching prosthodontics in general dentistry.
Because of the projected increase in the demand for high-quality prosthodontic services in the future, it will be necessary to upgrade undergraduate prosthodontics and to provide, in addition, improved prosthodontic training in the general dentistry residencies. The Federation of Prosthodontic Organizations is the unified voice of our specialty and must stand at the forefront to provide and direct this training. Every accredited program should be required to offer training in prosthodontics. We cannot expect graduate students to specialize in prosthodontics if we allow it to be downgraded, reduced in scope in our dental schools, and excluded from general dentistry residencies.
