There is little evidence that further intrusion in health care matters by the federal government will lead to significant reductions in the cost of health care services. The evidence seems to suggest that health care providers, working together, can have such an effect.

The current rush to establish affiliations and cooperatives is a foreshadowing of the future. In the face of such revolutionary change, it is imperative to keep in mind that health care is best delivered on a local level. The author examines one such system, the American Healthcare Systems, located in Los Angeles, California, and how they intend to be pioneers of the future.
