Prealbumin as a hapten carrier protein in certain varieties of dermatitis.

A significant decrease of serum prealbumin levels and an increased proportion of prealbumin bearing lymphocytes in peripheral blood have been found in patients of hapten-induced diseases. Prealbumin deposition in the vessel walls, and/or prealbumin positive cells (granulocytes, lymphocytes, macrophages) in the dermis have been observed in patients with proved drug allergy as well as allergic contact dermatitis using immunofluorescence technique. The eluates from membrane of lymphocytes of patients with drug allergy contained a mitogenic substance, probably antigen and sometimes prealbumin as well. These results also support the earlier suggested hypothesis that the prealbumin may act as a hapten carrier protein.

Autoimmune anti-T cell antibodies in the sera of patients with mycosis fungoides.

The serum of persons with mycosis fungoides contains IgG antibody believed to be specific for T cells, similar to the auto-antibodies reported in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, Hodgkin's disease and sarcoidosis. The antibody is present during the active, and disappears during the inactive, phase of the disease.

Proportions of mouse erythrocyte rosette-forming lymphocytes, immunoglobulin-bearing cells and E rosettes in patients with lymphoproliferative diseases.

The proportions of mouse erythrocyte rosette-forming (MERF) lymphocytes, immunoglobulin (Ig)-bearing cells and E rosettes were examined in the peripheral blood of patients with lymphoproliferative diseases. The proportion of MERF lymphocytes was considerably increased in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The correlation between the proportions of MERF and Ig-bearing cells, characteristic of healthy individuals, is not observed in the lymphoproliferative diseases. It is suggested that in a part of the patients with these diseases, the study of the proportion of MERF cells provides more accurate information on the proportion of lymphocytes of bursal origin than does counting of the Ig-bearing cells.

B and T cell markers of bone marrow and peripheral blood lymphoid cells in patients with paraproteinaemia.

Studies have been carried out on B and T cells in bone marrow and peripheral blood from patients with paraproteinaemia. The peripheral blood of patients with multiple myeloma showed a significant increase of B cells, mainly lymphoid cells bearing immunoglobulins corresponding to the paraproteins, while in patients with benign monoclonal gammopathy only a slight increase of B cells and a moderate decrease of T cells have been found. As to the bone marrow, the B cell population was significantly raised in patients with multiple myeloma, but it remained unchanged in patients with benign monoclonal gammopathy. Our findings may offer a new possibility to distinguish between these two diseases and provide further data to their pathogenesis.

[Cryomacroglobulinemic purpura with liver cirrhosis and hepatic porphyria].

Hepatic porphoria and histologically verified cirrhosis, teleangiectasia, purpose, papular skin lesions existing for eight years, as well as cryomacroglobulin were found in a 49 year old man. Pathogenetically the liver disease is considered to be the primary event, which was accompanied by secondary cryoglobulinemia. IgG and IgM type of thrombus in the vessels and of small granular deposits corresponding to the type of cryoprotein in the blood, were detected in the vessel walls of the upper part in the dermis and along these vessels of both purpuri and papular skin lesions. Immunoprecipitates could be revealed by FTC-labelled antihuman complement. In the skin lesions porphyrin could not be demonstrated. The investigation of cryoglobulin and of porphyrin disorders is reasonable in every patient with purpura accompanying pathological liver processes.

[Investigations of the T and B cells and the hemopexin-carrying lymphocytes in cases of porphyria cutanea tarda (author's transl)].

The immunoglobulins and hemopexin carrying cells have been determined in 14 patients having Porphyria cutanea tarda and in 15 healthy volunteers. At the same time, the stimulating effect of phytohemaglutinine and the leucocytesmigration inhibition by purified tuberculine proteins, were measured. In the 14 cases of Porphyria cutanea tarda, the IgG content and the number of hemopexin carrying lymphocytes was significantly increased, while the amounts of the other immunoglobuline carrying cells, and of T lymphocytes, was unchanged. Phytohemaglutinine stimulation and inhibition of leukocytes migration by purified tuberculine proteins were found to be identical in both patients and control groups.
