The phospholipid composition of Caulobacter crescentus CB13 and CB15 was determined. The acidic phospholipids, phosphatidylglycerol and cardiolipin, comprise approximately 87% of the total phospholipids. Neither phosphatidylethanolamine nor its precursor phosphatidylserine was detected. The outer and inner membranes of C. crescentus CB13 were separated, and phospholipid analysis revealed heterogeneity with respect to the relative amounts of phosphatidylglycerol and cardiolipin in the two membranes. As has been shown to be the case for other bacterial membranes, the concentration of cardiolipin increases and phosphatidylglycerol decreases as cell cultures enter stationary phase.
A national survey of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) produced data on the way AA members talk about their experiences and the role this plays in achieving and maintaining sobriety. The survey was based on self-completion questionnaires given to one in four members attending meetings of a one in ten random sample of AA groups operating in England and Wales. Only 1.8 per cent of current members had never spoken at a meeting, while 62.5 per cent spoke regularly. Hearing other people's personal stories was felt by members to be the most useful part of AA meetings. At some time 81.9 per cent of members had told their own story and there was some relationship between dropping out and not telling personal stories. The great majority of those who had told stories reported changes in their content over time; 58.0 per cent of these changes involved a shift of emphasis from drinking to recovery. The results suggest that AA enables people to change the way they perceive and evaluate themselves. It enables them to talk themselves out of alcoholism.

A total of 315 marketable and 57 obviously damaged corn samples were collected at 116 different farms and country elevators located in the United States in countries selected from among those producing more than 1 million bushels of corn in 1972. The samples were analyzed for aflatoxins and zearalenone. The most striking correlations observed were between geographical area and mycotoxin contamination. Aflatoxin contamination was most frequently encountered in the Southeast-Appalachia areas with a 44% incidence of marketable corn with detectable aflatoxins. Zearalenone was most frequently encountered in the Corn Belt with 10% incidence in marketable corn from that region. When mycotoxin contamination was found in an establishment, most of the samples from that establishment were contaminated. There was no correlation between mycotoxin contamination and storage practices nor could the observed contamination of marketable corn be related to the contamination of the obviously damaged grain. These observations plus correlations with the geographic incidence and aflatoxin level distribution of published field contamination data suggest the possibility of a common contamination mode.
The registration examination is the means by which The American Dietetic Association seeks to determine whether candidates throughout the country have attained a basic level of competence in terms of significant and appropriate areas of basic knowledge. The goal of every registration program is the passing, and thus, the registration of every candidate. If the examination reflects what the Association believes a registered dietitian must know, then candidates who answer correctly the questions on the registration examination will have shown that they are qualified to be registered representatives of the profession.

With an angular orientation accuracy of at least 1 , the ability of electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) to determine and emphasise crystallographic orientation is illustrated. Using the abilities of specially developed software for computing Euler angles derived from the scanned specimen, misorientations are pointed out with acceptable flexibility and graphic output through crystallographic orientation maps or pole figures. This ability is displayed in the particular case of laser cladding of nickel-based superalloy, a process that combines the advantages of a near net-shape manufacturing and a close control of the solidification microstructure (E-LMF: epitaxial laser metal forming).
