G6PD isozyme variation in Drosophila melanogaster is investigated in the larval stage through electrophoretic and genetic analyses. As current structural models for this gene-enzyme system fail to apply in these laboratory populations, the authors suggest a regulatory hypothesis to explain their observations.
The authors have attempted an introductory study of problems which are inherent to psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy and psychoanalysis conducted in the second language of a bilingual therapist. This situation seems to be more complex than is usually admitted in current literature. The main problem encountered by the authors in their personal practice stems from the fact that the process of identification becomes complex when the therapist is confronted with regressive and/or progressive shifts in the course of the treatment.
The authors sought to verify the hypothesis that the physician's sex would influence the evaluation of the parents of this patients. Based on a study of the case histories of 100 male and 100 female patients who were examined with equal frequency by male and female physicians, the authors conclude that no significant differences are demonstrated by this investigation.

The post-psychotic depression is a very controversial subject in psychiatry. Among the authors who have dealt with post-psychotic depression there is no general agreement on the topic ; their point of views can be summarized as follows: -- It is a phenomenon which can be regularly observed and which is a phase of psychotic evolution. -- It can be considered only as a phase which is secondary neuroleptic administration. -- The depressive mood as one which had always been present but hidden by the acute psychotic phenomena and thus not observable. -- It is a consequence of an intensive psychotherapeutic approach. This paper summarizes the literature concerning the above-mentioned point of views.

The soils in the neighbourhood of the Rio Montevecchio-Sitzerri, a stream that flows in the valley below the tailings pond of the Montevecchio-Levante mineral processing plant (SW Sardinia, Italy) are severely contaminated by heavy metals, to the extent that traditional land uses are compromised. Consequently urgent measures are needed both to abate the pollution at source and rehabilitate the contaminated land. This paper is concerned with the problem of soil decontamination using washing and leaching techniques. Laboratory experiments have been conducted in mechanically agitated reactors, using citric acid and acetic acid solutions and brine of hydrochloric acid and calcium chloride. The influence of both reagent concentration and solid-to-liquid ratio has been assessed, and in the most significant cases, the attack kinetics has been determined. The tests showed the brine to be the most effective for removing metals from the soils. Based on the findings of the investigations, the possibility of decontamination by heap leaching has been simulated in the laboratory using the column technique.
