A series of 23 cases of pineal tumours is presented, and their salient clinical features are analysed. The rationale of the present trend of treatment is discussed, and the relevant literature is reviewed.
A series of 20 patients over the age of 60 years, all suffering from chronic subdural haemotoma, is reviewed. Factors leading to diagnostic errors are emphasized. Burr-hole aspiration supplemented by adequate measures to aid in reexpansion of the brain remains the primary choice of treatment in this condition.
The authors report their experience with the use of epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) in the preoperative management of a series of patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms. A similar series of patients was taken as control. They found that EACA is of definite value in preventing recurrent hemorrhage in the preoperative period. The significance of antifibrinolytic therapy in ruptured intracranial aneurysms is discussed.
Two cases are reported of pupillary sparing in oculomotor palsy from temporal lobe astrocytoma. In one of them it was the first manifestation of recurrence of tumour. Tumour infiltration with resultant nerve ischemia is suggested to be the responsible pathological process.
Two cases of cerebellopontine angle meningioma causing subarachnoid haemorrhage are described. Their clinical and pathological significance is discussed.
A case of nodular fasciitis causing extradural spinal cord compression with a successful outcome following removal is reported. Such a tumor within the spinal cord has never been reported. The pathogenesis of a nodular fasciitis in this situation and its differential diagnosis is discussed.
