HOST CELL SPECIES SPECIFICITY OF MOUSE AND CHICKEN INTERFERONS.

Three thousand units of mouse interferon and 2000 units of chicken interferon were assayed on the respective heterologous species cell cultures. No antiviral activity was observed in the heterologous systems, suggesting a virtually complete species barrier to the action of these interferons

CIRCULATING INTERFERON IN MICE AFTER INTRAVENOUS INJECTION OF VIRUS.

Circulating interferon was detectable in mouse serum within 1 hour after the intravenous injection of various types of virus and it reached maximum levels in about 4 hours. Rapidly produced interferon may play a role in the pathogenesis of viral infection and in viral interference.

The effect of aminomethylpteroylglutamic acid on the development of skin hypersensitivity and on antibody formation in guinea pigs.

1. In guinea pigs, aminomethylpteroylglutamic acid (methotrexate) is capable of blocking the development of delayed skin hypersensitivity, the primary antibody response, and the specific febrile response to ovalbumin and diphtheria toxoid. The primary antibody response is more easily inhibited than is the development of delayed skin hypersensitivity. 2. The effect of methotrexate on immunologic responses depended upon the dose of methotrexate employed and the strength of the antigenic stimulus.
