The diagnostic combined laparoscopy was performed in 3.3% of patients, hospitalized with conjectural diagnosis of an acute disease of the abdominal cavity organs. In 655 of the total of 16,233 patients operated on in emergency, an acute disease was not revealed. In 37.3% of patients an urgent laparoscopy was performed for the abdominal trauma. Diagnosis, established before the laparoscopy performance, was confirmed in 36.6% of patients. Basing on the urgent laparoscopy data, performed for abdominal trauma, in 133 (49%) of patients the laparotomy conduction have been avoided. Conjectural diagnosis of an acute appendicitis according to the laparoscopy data was confirmed in 25.6% of observations, perforative ulcer--in 28.6%, an acute cholecystitis--in 54.3%, an acute pancreatitis--in 45.6%.
Laparoscopy was performed in 1977 patients in an acute surgical diseases and the abdominal cavity (AC) injuries, the curative one--in 895. In patients with clinical signs of the AC organs acute disease or trauma it is possible the four-variants diagnostic and curative program application: radial methods of investigation and laparocentesis--for diagnosis, laparoscopy and laparotomy--for diagnosis and treatment. The laparoscopy application is indicated even if the "acute abdomen" clinical features presence are confirmed the radial diagnosis and laparocentesis result. If necessary the diagnostical laparoscopy is transformed into curative procedure, which is used with the miniinvasive access application, resulting in low operative risk.

LCS was performed in 35 patients with mammary cancer, 59 patients with benign breast tumours and 35 healthy people. 39 samples were taken from inhabitants of Odessa, 89 from St.-Petersburg. Differences were discovered between blood plasma spectra of Odessa and St.-Petersburg residents. Spectra of blood plasma in patients with mammary tumours differed from those of healthy people. LCS may be used for screening, for forming the groups of risk and for diagnosis of mammary gland tumours.
LCS presents information on the size distribution of particles in analysed objects. LCS of blood plasma was performed in 26 patients with stomach bleedings, 19 with brain injuries, 13 with chronic hepatitis, 149 with chronic chlorophos intoxication and 45 healthy subjects. Spectra of blood plasma from patients with stomach bleeding differed significantly from those of healthy subjects. Spectra of blood plasma from patients with brain injuries differed from those of alcohol poisoning patients. The size distribution of particles in the blood plasma alcohol poisoning patients was similar to that of the patients with chronic hepatitis or chronic chlorophos intoxication perhaps because of liver function disturbances in all these cases. These results allow LCS to be offered as a diagnostic method.
The results of dissolution of the "lost" concrements in the common bile duct in 12 patients, who underwent urgent operations for acute complicated cholecystitis, with the use of transdrain administration of miscleron, chloroform, novocaine are analysed. A positive result was obtained in 10 patients.
Gamma-ray teletherapy remains the mainstay in the treatment of mediastinal malignancies complicated by superior vena caval compression. However, patients presenting with severe circulatory disorders die of hypoxia before the effect of radiotherapy sets in. Temporary extracorporeal cava-caval shunt is intended to release blood from the vena cava superior network and then to return it back to the heart by vena cava inferior. The shunt obviates fatal consequences of circulatory disorders and supports the patient until radiotherapy starts to pick up. The method was successfully tested in 7 patients.
Combination chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, 5-fluorouracil, adriamycin and platinum was performed in 122 patients with stage III-IV squamous-cell cancer and adenocarcinoma of the lung. Control group included 84 cases of non-small-cell lung cancer treated with the same drugs except platinum. Ten patients with stage III disease received platinum-based combination chemotherapy and split-course radiotherapy in the total dose of 65-70 Gy. Complete or partial remission was obtained in 48.6 +/- 11.74% of stage III patients following three cycles of chemotherapy, with mean survival reaching 8.6 +/- 3.2 months. Survival in responders was 10.6 +/- 2.1 months. Chemoradiation treatment was associated with even higher survival (14.6 +/- 2.16 months). It is concluded that platinum be used in combination chemotherapy and chemoradiation treatment of the above categories of patients.
The reliability of puncture biopsy of the breast is 65%. The procedure is not safe since it does not assure ablasticity. Puncture biopsy should be performed immediately before the start of treatment at institutions equipped for cytological, surgical and radiation treatment. The use of the procedure should be confined to cases in whom morphologic data are decisive for choosing therapeutic modality.

Contact thermography was performed in 87 patients with benign and in 75 with cancerous tumours of the breast. Hyperthermia over the tumour is characterized by a 2.2 degrees C and higher increase of the temperature and was registered only in cancer of the breast. Anisothermy of the breast was characterized by a +/- 0.5 degrees C and higher and may be considered as a supplementary diagnostic sign distinguishing cancer of the breast from benign tumours.
Proteinase inhibitor activity in patients with stage IIb, III and IV breast cancer was shown to be higher than in healthy donors and cases with stage I-IIa disease. The proteinase activity/inhibitor activity ratio in breast carcinoma tissue appeared higher than in benign tumors and normal tissue. Tumor proteinase activity was in reverse correlation with degree of cell differentiation. Dissemination to regional lymph nodes involved decrease in tumor proteinase activity matched by relevant increase in lymph nodes. Radiation treatment resulted in decreased proteinase activity and increased inhibitory activity both in primary tumor and involved lymph nodes.
