[Auditory canal hemorrhage as a symptom of mandibular trauma].

Auditory canal hemorrhage is usually a sign of a basal skull fracture. It is commonly unknown that this sign can also be a symptom of combined fracture of the external auditory canal and the mandibular condyle. In our investigations of patients with maxillofacial injuries we found in 15% of 197 fractures of the mandibular condyle within 3 years this combination. In sequence of these results there is a differential diagnostic need for an exact investigation to clear up these various causes in each case as first step toward an accurate therapy. The mechanism of these fractures, their etiology, and therapy are discussed with special reference to possible complications.20

[Report of a case of idiopathic gingival hyperplasia].

The clinical and histological picture of a rare gingival disease, i.e. idiopathic gingival hyperplasia, is discussed in detail on the basis of a case of our own Comprehensive diagnostic measures were taken to exclude other possible causes of a hyperplasia of the gingiva. Despite a rapid recurrence after gingivectomy, a "wait and see" attitude is assumed and the next therapeutical procedure is planned only after completion of puberty.

[Studies of the effects of an injectable combination of a local anaesthetic with a beta-receptor-blocker (author' transl)].

The use of an injectable combination of a local anaesthetic (Xylestesin) and a beta-receptor-blocker (Betadrenol) during maxillo-facial surgery is described in this paper. The statistical analysis of pulse and blood pressure recordings of 30 patients demonstrated no significant blood pressure changes; there was a significant decrease of the cardiac rate, however. It was noted that the negative chronotropic effect was the greater the higher the rate rate was before injection. The local anaesthetic described is of great therapeutic value, in particular for apprehensive patients and patients with tachycardia.

Multiple odontogenic tumors and other anomalies. An autosomal dominantly inherited syndrome.

The authors report the occurrence of multiple odontogenic tumors in a father, his two sons, and his daughter. These occurred soon after birth and recurred upon occasion, with imcomplete removal. Associated with the multiple odontomas is esophageal stenosis. The occurrence of hepatopathy of unknown origin and an increased susceptibility to infection appear to be other components in this syndrome. A similar case reported in the literature has been cited. Autosomal dominant inheritance is suggested.
