[High levels of CK and its isoenzymes produced by a thymus carcinoma (author's transl)].

A 63 years old female is described suffering from thymus carcinoma with increased levels of CK and CK-MB enzymes. The separation of the total CK enzymes into the isoenzymes CK-MM, CK-BB, and CK-MB showed a marked difference between the photometric and the immunological method. This discrepancy can be explained by postulating a molecule specific for thymus carcinoma, probably a new CK isoenzyme. The relevance of using the photometric method in cardiologic routine diagnostic is pointed out.

A multivariate rate equation for variable-interval performance.

A value-like parameter is introduced into a rate equation for describing variable-interval performance. The equation, derived solely from formal considerations, expresses rate of responding as a joint function of rate of reinforcement and "reinforcer power." Preliminary tests of the rate equation show that it handles univariate data as well as Herrnstein's hyperbola. In addition, a form of Herrnstein's hyperbola can be derived from the equation, and it predicts forms of matching in concurrent situations. For the multivariate case, reinforcer values scaled in concurrent situations where matching is assumed to hold are taken as determinations of reinforcer power. The multivariate rate equation is fitted to an appropriate set of data and found to provide a good description of variable-interval performance when both rate and power of reinforcement are varied. Rate and power measures completely describe reinforcement. The effects of their joint variation are not predicted and cannot be described by Herrnstein's equation.

[Stress and electrocardiogram. Telemetric investigations during a stunt flight program (author's transl)].

The excitation process in the electrocardiogram was telemetrically transmitted and recorded during psychic stress of 25 subjects aged between 17 and 56 years with healthy cardiovascular systems, during a standardized stunt flight program. The pulse rate profile showed a clearly marked sinus arrhythmia in the prestart phase and during the flight figures in which no acceleration force is in action, but essentially psychic stress alone. Corresponding to this sinus arrhythmia are distinct changes in amplitude of the P and T waves and the duration of the PQ interval, comparable to a changing sympathetic or vagus ECG. The behavior of the ST segment corresponds to that of ergometric stress, a horizontal or descending lower course was also observed in the younger subjects. In one case a 2:1 parasystole was observed during the change-over phase from higher to lower heart rates.

[Anterior pituitary regulation of testicular function in the elderly (author's transl)].

Pituitary gonadotrophin regulation was examined with the LH-RH test in 15 men (aged between 55 and 90 years), five of them aged between 71 and 90 years. Compared to normal mature males, the plasma testosterone in these subjects was reduced or was in the lower range of normal, while basal LH levels were increased in half the cases. However, basal FSH values were increased in three only. In most of these subjects with increased basal values of LH, the LH-RH stimulation caused a paradoxical temporary reduction in LH release which did not occur with FSH. This paradoxical response also did not occur when basal LH values were normal.

[Clinical experiences with a new ready-made lidocain-electrolyte solution for intravenous permanent therapy of ventricular arrhythmias].

Efficacy, tolerability and adverse effects of a ready-for-use lidocain-electrolyte infusion solution for the therapy and prophylaxis of ventricular arrhythmias were tested in routine clinical use. The solution proved highly efficacious and was well tolerated. Even in long-term administration (mean 5 days), no disturbances of the water and electrolyte homeostasis or any other complications were observed.
