Geophysical expression of natural recharge in different geological terrains.

Behavior of the Dar-Zarrouk parameters--longitudinal unit conductance, transverse unit resistance, longitudinal resistivity, and transverse resistivity--has been compared with the behavior of the natural recharge in two geological terrains. Contour patterns of the geophysical parameters and those of natural recharge have been analyzed and a qualitative relation in their behavior was recognized. Graphical comparison of the geophysical and hydrogeological parameters clearly illustrates a qualitative relationship between the two parameters. Use of such qualitative relation in the field of ground water exploration and management studies is explained. A modest beginning is attempted to arrive at a quantitative relation between natural recharge and Dar-Zarrouk parameters.

Evaluation of genotoxicity of clofazimine, an antileprosy drug, in mice in vivo. III. Sister chromatid exchange analysis in bone marrow cells.

The potential genotoxicity of an antileprosy drug, clofazimine, was evaluated in mice in an in vivo model by sister chromatid exchange (SCE) analysis. Three different dose levels (4, 20 and 40 mg/kg) were tested, and the animals were treated once daily for 15 days. Sister chromatid differential staining was done by BrdU-tablet implantation and FPG technique. All the doses tested here elevated the SCE frequencies significantly and the increases showed a significant positive correlation with the doses. The results confirm our earlier findings based on metaphase analysis and micronucleus test in the same species.

Alteration in the activities of the membrane-integrated enzymes of polymorphonuclear leukocytes in obesity.

Oubain sensitive and insensitive adenosine triphosphatase showed decrease in their activities in the polymorphonuclear leukocytes of obese patients while the activity of acetylcholinesterase was found to be increased significantly. The contents of sodium, potassium and magnesium were found to be significantly decreased in polymorphonuclear leukocytes of obese patients. Polymorphonuclear leukocytes obtained from treated obese patients showed considerable restoration.
