[The segments of facial profiles: cutaneous and osseous. Sex differences using canonical correlations].

By calculation of new parameters named "canonicals", with matrix methodology, it is possible to calculate the relations between whole of cutaneous and bony profile elements and between there wholes and each facial original segment. The affinity between subjects are raised in evidence and drawn. Sexual differences are obvious in spite of 27% "bad classed" subjects.

[Factorial analysis of the "proper" angles involved in ethnic prognathism].

This work rest on 10 populations, chiefly arising from "musée de l'Homme" (Paris). 9 angles was considered in squeletal profile, and "reciprocal averaging" analysis was made. It shows the main function of peri-buccal segments situation, relatively to palatal and mandibular planes, as well as participation of facial whole situation relatively to anterior neurocranium. This analysis confirm the peculiar position of leucoderm men with reference to other groups.

[The average and facial esthetics. Contribution of the factorial analysis of correspondences].

A reciprocal averaging is made upon curves of cutaneous facial profile divided in 6 zones and analyzed by 2 index for each zone. Sex of subjects is considered. The main results is first opposition between ridge nose and other regions, then between lips and surrounding zones. Male distribution is more spread than female one. The females are to be distinguished by plainly and upper situated nose concavity. Sexual differentiation is not observed after first axis, and individual typology exist alone in following axis.

[Evolution of the functional axes of the middle ear in mammals].

In 44 mammalian species, the auditory ossicles have been studied in situ in the tympanic cavity and in vestibular orientation. After the lateral semicircular canal's direction and dimensions have been put in common, measurements have been undertaken leading to a comparison of 4 phylogenic stages. Thus we have observed a rotation of the stapes, of the incus and of the malleus head, a receding of the manubrium of the malleus ending in an inversion of the bone's concavity, an extension of the supposed unfolded chain, a parallelization of the malleolus handle and of the lower incudal apophysis, a slope of the functional axes towards the back, a diminution of the distance between the two lever arms due to a receding of the anterior arm and a diminution of the ratio between these lever arms. These varied changes are linked to the occipital rotation and to the receding of the jaws following humanization.

[Symmetry of the horizontal semicircular canal of the labyrinth].

Out of 30 adult human craniums and with a portable tomograph (vestibulograph) allowing 5 degrees of liberty (2 rotations and 3 translocations), a "medio-labyrinthic" plane was determined from the two "vestibions" put in the main X rays axis. Under those requirements, the lateral ductus becomes constantly visible on the cranian teleradiographies and the founded horizontal directions are identical either for the left than for the right (Student t's test always shows non significant differences).
