Juxtaorbital en plaque meningiomas. Report of four cases and review of literature.

Juxtaorbital spheroid wing or ridge meningiomas are the most common of the basal meningiomas. These are at times meningiomas en plaque, which in most patients do not have significant intracranial component. This article reviews the literature on en-plaque meningiomas and discusses the role of MR imaging and CT in the diagnosis of en-plaque meningiomas of the paraorbital region. The role of fat-suppression, gadolinium-enhanced, T1-weighted MR imaging is emphasized.

Imaging of orbital lymphoproliferative disorders.

Lymphomas and leukemias account for a large portion of orbital tumors. Orbital lymphoma accounts for 55% of malignant orbital tumors in adults. Idiopathic orbital inflammatory pseudotumors are pathologic entities that often challenge ophthalmologists and radiologists. This article describes the MR and CT features of orbital lymphoma, leukemia, and some other lymphoproliferative disorders.

Ocular and orbital imaging.

The development of magnetic resonance imaging technology has proven to be a great breakthrough in diagnostic medical imaging, ophthalmologic imaging, and biomedical research. The anatomic detail demonstrated by an magnetic resonance image is a representation of at least three physical properties of static tissue: photon density and T1 and T2 relaxation times. Intrinsic differences in proton density and proton relaxation times of tissues allow excellent image contrast between various normal structures and high sensitivity for detecting pathologic states. This article discusses magnetic resonance imaging features of common ocular and orbital lesions, with emphasis on the potential of magnetic resonance imaging in ophthalmology.

The eye.

In recent years, the growing application of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging evaluation of the orbit and globe have dramatically increased the role of imaging and, hence, that of the radiologist in assessing ophthalmologic disorders. This article discusses magnetic resonance imaging features of the most common and less common ocular pathologies, with particular emphasis on the potential of magnetic resonance imaging in the field of ophthalmology.
