The effect of personality, demographic, and professional variables on nurses' experienced stress is examined through the use of the Nursing Stress Inventory in a midwestern Catholic hospital. Findings indicate that age, nursing role status, length of time since graduation, job tenure, area of nursing, and interpersonal needs are associated with various dimensions of stress.
Collective bargaining has made substantial progress in the health care industry in recent years, especially among nurses. It is important for health care administrators to consider the underlying issues and the future prospects for collective bargaining by this critical group of health care providers.

This article describes the first stage of an assertiveness training program for staff and managerial nurses in a general hospital.
