A case of meningioma situated at the anterior rim of the foramen magnum with successful removal via a transoral approach is reported. A new technique of preventing cerebrospinal fluid leakage is described utilizing fascia lata and a bone baffle without any attempt to close the dura, either by primary suture or tissue sealants.
We present the case of a 56-year-old man who complained of numbness in his cheek, and was shown to have a very large partly thrombosed aneurysm of the ipsilateral petrous carotid artery. The radiological findings and differential diagnosis are discussed. Aneurysm of the petrous carotid should be included in the differential diagnosis of any parasellar mass.

A device is described that provides a reliable automatic deep breath to an animal being ventilated with a typical laboratory ventilator. The deep breath is provided by closing a solenoid valve in the expiratory tubing causing the animal to inspire two, three, or four consecutive tidal volumes without expiration. The interval between deep breaths is selected to be every 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 min. Control of this interval is provided by simple integrated circuits. Total parts cost of this device is approximately $90.

In vitro and in vivo studies determined the effect of digestive enzymes on substrate-coated barium sulfate tablets. Fragmentation of the barium tablet core was detected radiographically after enzymatic digestion of the substrate material occurred. Preliminary studies in humans suggest that such tablets may be used in the diagnosis of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency.
