Based on an extension of Vierordt's method and in continuation of earlier work, the simultaneous analysis of a ternary mixture of meclozine hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride and caffeine is discussed. Using 0.01 M methanolic sodium hydroxide as the solvent, the absorbance of the solution of the mixture is recorded at 230, 273 and 307 nm. The concentration of each component is determined by the solution of three simultaneous equations.

The cortical zone of oocyte of Nandus nandus has been studied by cytological and histochemical techniques. In an early stage of oocyte development some granular substances appear in the juxtanuclear region which during oocyte growth move to the peripheral ooplasm and forms a thick cortical granular layer. Cytochemically, this cortical granular layer consists of proteins and carbohydrates along with RNA positive material, lipids, mitochondria and Golgi bodies. This cortical granular layer, later on, converts into the cortical vacuolar layer and ultimately forms the cortical alveolar structures in the vitellogenic oocyte of Nandus nandus. The results suggest that the cortical zone plays an important role in the storage of substances transported from the follicular epithelium to the oocyte. Further, the cortical granular substances which are rich in proteins, carbohydrates and lipoidal material, also help in the formation of jelly layers of the developing oocytes.

A cytochemical study of the cortical zone has been made in the early oocyte, during oogenesis and during pre- and post-vitellogenic stages of Gallus domesticus. The cortical zone of oocyte is not well-developed in the pre- and post-vitellogenic stages. Cytochemically, the cortical zone consists of proteins, carbohydrates, ribonucleic acid and lipids of L1, L2 and L3 types along with mitochondrial granules. A possible mechanism of transport of lipids and mitochondria from the follicular epithelium to the cortical ooplasm has been suggested.

The cortical zone of oocytes, which lies just below the follicular epithelium appears in the early stages of development, but reaches its fullest growth in vitellogenic oocytes. In the present studies it was found that the cortical zone of Hemidactylus flaviviridis consists of proteins, lipoproteins, carbohydrates, fatty yolk, RNA and little amount of DNA in mature oocytes along with mitochondria and Golgi bodies. In the early oocyte, this zone is fine granular in nature, but during the yolky stages of oocyte, it becomes filled by the vacuolar structure, which shows in it's the presence of fatty and compound yolk. The L1 and L2 types of lipid globules are also observed in the cortical zone during vitellogenic oocyte.
Methaqualone injected i.v. has been reported to be a safe short-acting anaesthetic agent and a muscle relaxant in man. It has been employed in a variety of operative procedures and to modify convulsions in the management of tetanus and in electroconvulsive therapy. Safety, usefulness and the marked central effects of the drug led us to study its central effects by EEG in man. Discrepancies between clinical and EEG signs were thus seen. EEG patterns resembled those after barbiturates and the effect was dose dependent. Differences between methaqualone and barbiturates are discussed. The EEG patterns were potentiated by thioridazine and antagonised by imipramine.
