The experience with operative cholangiography during cholecystectomy on 59 consecutive patients in a small peripheral hospital is presented. This investigation is feasible in a small hospital and can lead to visualisation of stones or abnormality of the lower end of the common bile duct, otherwise unsuspected, to the benefit of the patient.
A case of penetrating thoraco-abdominal injury involving portal vein in the free margin of lesser omentum is reported; light traction on a tape sling or a tape tourniquet around the hepato-duodenal ligament applied just above the level of duodenum is an effective method of achieving haemostasis and space necessary for repair of portal venous injury at this site.
