[Diagnostic value of keratosis palmaris as indicative sign of visceral cancer].

Palmar keratosis is studied in patients with visceral cancer. It is related to sex and localization. Its higher frequency can be observed in these patients than in controls. Their incidence is larger in the male and in patients with cancer localized in oesophagus, lungs and prostate. In woman the incidence is less than in male and in cancers localized anywhere but breast and uterus. This cutaneous lesion is a very important phenotypical sign in oncology and can be considered as paraneoplasic cutaneous marker.

[Epidermic and lymphocytary chalone receptors in psoriasis].

By Hondius-Boldingh. Laurence and Bullough, Laurence method, the activity of the epidermal chalone receptors was studied in 36 psoriasis and 36 healthy controls. The lymphocyte chalone receptors was also studied in 26 patients, by Garcia Giralt et al. and Lasalvia et al. method. The results showed that the epidermal chalone receptors are significantly decreased in the involved skin, and in a lesser degree in the uninvolved one of the patients with psoriasis. The lymphocyte chalone receptors were normal. This decreasing in the function of the epidermal chalone system by means of different "antireceptor factors", interrupt the physiological cell control of the epidermis. The absence of the chalone specific function, produces an intracelular disbalance which provokes, in particular, the high number of mitosis and the lack of terminal differentiation. These elements admit that in psoriasis there is an abnormal epidermopoyesis. Over a genetic disorder, multiple factors leading to a deffect of the cell membrane. These factors, acquired, local or systemic interfering with the receptors of membrane, would alter the cellular regulation induced my the chalones.

[Epidermic chalone receptors in psoriasis treated with retinoid:Ro 10-9359].

The epidermic chalone receptor of skin with lesion and without lesion are studied on 20 patients with active psoriasis. The testlest were performed before and two month after oral treatment with RO 10-9359. Roche. The results show significant variation with an increased a the number of receptors after treatment. As these receptors are in the cell membrane, the authors consider that RO 10-9359 action in on the membrane and its surrounding, making in possible to the epithelial cell to begin its autoregulation, autocontrol and differentiation when the specific activity of the chalones become normal.

[Cutaneous lipids and psoriasis].

The concentration of total cholesterol and that of its sterified fraction is studied in skin biopsies and blood of psoriatic patients. The results show high cholesterol levels in skin of psoriatic plaques and of healthy areas. The sterified cholesterol proportion is significantly less in plaques than in skin without lesions of the same patients, and that of the normal controls. These alterations are not accompanied by a modification of the plasmatic lipidic profile. The results could be the expression of a raise of the skin cholesterol preceeding and perhaps predisposing the evolution of the psoriatic lesion, and the deficit on the cholesterol enzymes sterification as a biochemical marker of the accelerated differentiation and cornification at the psoriatic plaque.

[Association of the HLA B A locus and psoriasis. Analysis of a sample from the Uruguayan population].

Psoriasis is a skin disease affecting up to a 3% of the world's population. New theories try to explain it as disease provoked by many agents and transmitted by an only gen, where the environmental factors are important. This should be confirmed with the association found with HLA and psoriasis. In this paper we study the HLA association with psoriasis as it has been described in populations of the northern hemisphere, 19 patients with vulgar psoriasis were tested by means of 9 HLA A and 15 HLA B antigens. Postulous, arthropatic and palmo-plantar psoriasis were excluded. We employed the NIH microlymphocytotoxicity test. An association with HLA B13 is shown in accordance to some other reports.

[Curly hair nevus].

A nevus of the hair follicle of the hair scalp is described on a male child, aged three, white race, with curly hair "curly Hair nevus" and an epidermic nevus of the neck epidermis. The hair are thin, fair, disposed in curls with big spire in a number of two or three. They are short, without a 180 degrees torsion on their longitudinal axis. Transversally cut the section is almost circular. The nosology is discussed and the differential diagnosis is tried with the "woolly hair nevus".

[Microsporic tinea of the scalp in adults].

Five cases of "tinea capitis" by Microsporum canis in adult were studied. Cellular immunological tests were performed on four of them and the results were according to clinical forms. The hormonal studies in these patients were normal to their ages. Three of them were old women. Two cases were atypical difficult to diagnose. For this reason the authors suggest to perform mycological studies in every scalp affections were it is impossible to do a clinical and evolutive positive diagnosis. All the patients healed with local and systemie antimycotical treatment.

[Auto- and allolymphocytoxins in psoriasis].

The authors study the auto, alolymphocytotoxins and E rosettes, in 40 patients with active psoriasis. The results show a decrease in the average of T lymphocytes which form E rosettes. It was not possible to render evident the auto or alolymphocytotoxins. This indicates that there are not antilymphocytics antibodies in psoriasis, which makes it possible to eliminate them as responsible for the inhibiting factors in rosettes formation by the lymphocyte.

[Circulating immune complexes in treated latent syphilis].

22 patients with treated latent syphilis were studied by the method of anticomplementary activity. The patients did not have any antecedent of primary or secondary muco-cutaneous lesion or any other clinical or humoral manifestation of other diseases. The presence of circulating immune complexes with statistical significance were shown in 14 cases. Syphilis in this period is considered as an immuno reactive disease, obliging to periodic clinical and specialized laboratory controls.

[Antimelanin antibodies in vitiligo].

The circunlant antimelanin antibodies are studied in common or idiopathic vetiligo. The patients did not have other skin or systemic lesions. The results show the presence antimelanin antibodies in a very significant fashion. Based on these elements, the authors consider that this observation is very important and that in this disease the autoimmune mechanisms have a fundamental character. In vitiligo as in every autoimmune disease, the etiology can be multiple.

[Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the skin].

The authors present the case of an 18 years old male patient with a tumor localized in the skin of the nose, which had a fast evolution provoking in a month regional metastases. Histologically it proved to be an alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. The clinical and histopathological characters are described, and considerations about the origin of this tumor are made.

[The interferon system in psoriasis].

In both cases, the interferon is significantly increased. This could explain the immunological alterations of the efferent or the afferent ways described in the psoriasis. The interferon anti-proliferative action would not be produced by a failure in the receptors of the cellular membrane at the psoriasis epidermis. In some psoriasis, interferon inductors activated or not by viruses could be associated to the etiology of the disease.

[Phosphohexose isomerase in psoriasis].

--The authors study in psoriasis an enzyme of the glucolytic way, the Phospho-hexose-isomerase. --They find significant high levels in blood and damaged skin, while these were "normal" in healthy skin. --Phospho-hexose-isomerase acts as a biological marker in psoriasis, and acquires the significance of an active cellular proliferation. --The highest values are those of the erythrodermaes which become normal with clinical involution. --The authors suggest that psoriasis, by an exaggerated cellular division inhibition mechanism, metabolism is deviated in order to bring the energetic elements and substrate to form the new cell. --Phospho-hexose-isomerase is not specific of the malignant process.

[Cytotoxicity in acne vulgaris].

Three cellular cytotoxic lymphocytary populations were studied in patients with different forms of inflammatory acne vulgaris: direct or spontaneous, antibodies dependent and phytohemagglutinine stimulated. To these was added "Propionibacterium acnes" from cultures of material extracted separately from comedones and pustules. The direct or spontaneous and antibodies dependent cytotoxicity were normal. The subpopulation responsible of the phytohemagglutinine stimulated cytotoxicity has shown a clear hyperactivity which was augmented by the addition of these bacteria. But this hyperactivity stimulation was selective for the "Propionibacterium acnes" from pustules and not for those from comedones. These findings could contribute to the knowledge of the immune cellular mechanisms in acne vulgaris inflammation provoked by these bacteria.

[The irritable skin syndrome ("Angry Back syndrome")].

Twenty eight patients with allergic contact dermatitis were studied by epicutaneous tests, which showed 88 positive reactions. Re-tested 2-3 months later with the same allergen of the positive reactions, 14 were negative (15.9%). This decrease can be due to the Excited Skin Syndrome. The causes which can provoke false positive cutaneous reactions are considered and the inherent to this syndrome, also called "Angry Back Syndrome" are analyzed.

[Onyxis caused by Malassezia (Pityrosporum) ovalis].

Onychia by Malassezia ovalis are described for the first time. They are observed mainly on the hands of young or adult women with semiological characteristics of aphlegmatic onycholysis. In clinical materials M. ovalis is seen as yeasts only or as yeasts and typical hyphae. Cultures are easily obtained on Sabouraud medium containing 2% of bile. It is thought that these lesions are example of an opportunistic mycosis since predisposing local factors are almost always present. Oral or topic treatment with imidazole derivatives has shown to be effective.
