FTIR-microspectroscopy of prion-infected nervous tissue.

The family of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE), also termed prion diseases, is a group of fatal, neurodegenerative diseases characterized by the accumulation of a misfolded protein, the disease-associated prion protein PrPSc. This glycoprotein differs in secondary structure from its normal, cellular isoform PrPC, which is physiologically expressed mostly by neurons. Scrapie is a prion disease first described in the 18th century in sheep and goats, and has been established as a model in rodents to study the pathogenesis and pathology of prion diseases. Assuming a multitude of molecular parameters change in the tissue in the course of the disease, FTIR microspectroscopy has been proposed as a valuable new method to study and identify prion-affected tissues due to its ability to detect a variety of changes in molecular structure and composition simultaneously. This paper reviews and discusses results from previous FTIR microspectroscopic studies on nervous tissue of scrapie-infected hamsters in the context of histological and molecular alterations known from conventional pathogenesis studies. In particular, data from studies reporting on disease-specific changes of protein structure characteristics, and also results of a recent study on hamster dorsal root ganglia (DRG) are discussed. These data include an illustration on how the application of a brilliant IR synchrotron light source enables the in situ investigation of localized changes in protein structure and composition in nervous cells or tissue due to PrPSc deposition, and a demonstration on how the IR spectral information can be correlated with results of complementary studies using immunohistochemistry and x-ray fluorescence techniques. Using IR microspectroscopy, some neurons exhibited a high accumulation of disease-associated prion protein evidenced by an increased amount of beta-sheet at narrow regions in or around the infected nervous cells. However, not all neurons from terminally diseased hamsters showed PrPSc deposition. Generally, the average spectral differences between all control and diseased DRG spectra are small but consistent as demonstrated by independent experiments. Along with studies on the purified misfolded prion protein, these data suggest that synchrotron FTIR microspectroscopy is capable of detecting the misfolded prion protein in situ without the necessity of immunostaining or purification procedures.

Reversing multidrug resistance by RNA interference through the suppression of MDR1 gene in human hepatoma cells.

AIM: To reverse the multidrug resistance (MDR) by RNA interference (RNAi)-mediated MDR1 suppression in hepatoma cells. METHODS: For reversing MDR by RNAi technology, two different short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs) were designed and constructed into pGenSil-1 plasmid, respectively. They were then transfected into a highly adriamycin-resistant HepG2 hepatoma cell line (HepG2/ADM). The RNAi effect on MDR was evaluated by real-time PCR, cell cytotoxicity assay and rhodamine 123 (Rh123) efflux assy. RESULTS: The stably-transfected clones showed various degrees of reversal of MDR phenotype. Surprisingly, the MDR phenotype was completely reversed in two transfected clones. CONCLUSION: MDR can be reversed by the shRNA-mediated MDRI suppression in HepG2/ADM cells, which provides a valuable clue to make multidrug-resistant hepatoma cells sensitive to anti-cancer drugs.

The combined antenatal corticosteroids and vitamin K therapy for preventing periventricular-intraventricular hemorrhage in premature newborns less than 35 weeks gestation.

We prospectively evaluated whether combined antenatal corticosteroid and vitamin K administration have any benefit, over and above that of corticosteroid or vitamin K used alone, in reducing the frequency and the degree of PIVH in premature newborns less than 35 weeks' gestation. All of these 280 pregnant women were randomly allocated into five groups according to the in-patient sequence. Group A (vitamin K1 group) including 38 pregnant women (40 newborns) received antenatal intramuscular or intravenously injection of vitamin K1 10 mg per day for 2-7 days. Group B (single dose corticosteroid group) including 57 pregnant women (63 newborns) received antenatal intramuscular or intravenously injection of dexamethasone 10 mg per day for 1 day. Group C (two dose corticosteroid group) including 62 pregnant women (70 newborns) received antenatal intramuscular or intravenously injection of dexamethasone 10 mg per day for 2 days. Group D (combined using dexamethasone and vitamin K1) including 41 pregnant women (44 newborns) received dexamethasone 10 mg per day for 1 day and vitamin K110 mg per day for 2-7 days. Control group, including 82 pregnant women (87 newborns) were received neither dexamethasone nor vitamin K1 injection. The results showed PIVH was diagnosed in 17 of 40 (42.5%) in Group A, 34 of 63 (54.0%) in Group B, 36 of 70 (51.4%) in Group C, 14 of 44 (31.8%) in Group D, and 57 of 87 (65.2%) in control infants (p = 0.004). More infants in the control group had grade III or IV intracranial hemorrhage after birth (p = 0.049). After antenatal supplement of dexamethasone and vitamin K1, both the total incidence of PIVH and the frequency of severe PIVH decreased significantly. The total and severe incidence of PIVH in Group B (single doses dexamethasone) and Group C (two courses dexamethasone) there were no significant difference. It showed that after antenatal supplement of dexamethasone and vitamin K1, both the total incidence of PIVH and the frequency of severe PIVH decreased significantly, and combined antenatal corticosteroid and vitamin K administration have much benefit, over and above that of corticosteroid or vitamin K used alone.

Transport of gamma-hydroxybutyrate in rat kidney membrane vesicles: Role of monocarboxylate transporters.

Intoxication with gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is associated with coma, seizure, and death; treatment of overdoses is symptomatic. Previous studies in our laboratory have demonstrated that L-lactate and pyruvate treatment can increase the renal clearance of GHB and increase its elimination in rats, suggesting that GHB may undergo renal reabsorption mediated by monocarboxylic acid transporters (MCTs). The goals of this study were to characterize the renal transport of GHB in rats and to determine the role of MCT in its renal transport. Brush-border membrane (BBM) and basolateral membrane (BLM) vesicles were isolated from rat kidney cortex, and the uptake of L-lactate and GHB was characterized. L-Lactate and GHB undergo both pH- and sodium-dependent transport in BBM vesicles and pH-dependent transport in BLM vesicles. A simple Michaelis-Menten equation best described the pH-dependent uptake of GHB in BBM (Km, 8.0 +/- 1.8 mM; Vmax, 838 +/- 45 pmol/mg/s) and in BLM vesicles (Km, 10.5 +/- 2.6 mM; Vmax, 806 +/- 253 pmol/mg/s). mRNA of MCT1 and MCT2 was determined in rat kidney cortex using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction; using Western blot, the protein expression of MCT1 was present mainly in BLM vesicles, with weak expression in BBM vesicles, whereas that of MCT2 was exclusively in BLM vesicles. Studies with rat MCT1 gene-transfected MDA-MB231 cells demonstrated that GHB was a substrate of MCT1. The data suggest that rat MCT1 may represent an important transporter for GHB in renal tubule cells. This investigation provides evidence for the importance of MCTs in the reabsorption of the monocarboxylic acids l-lactate and GHB in the kidney.

Evolutionary divergence of exon flanks: a dissection of mutability and selection.

The intronic sequences flanking exon-intron junctions (i.e., exon flanks) are important for splice site recognition and pre-mRNA splicing. Recent studies show a higher degree of sequence conservation at flanks of alternative exons, compared to flanks of constitutive exons. In this article we performed a detailed analysis on the evolutionary divergence of exon flanks between human and chimpanzee, aiming to dissect the impact of mutability and selection on their evolution. Inside exon flanks, sites that might reside in ancestral CpG dinucleotides evolved significantly faster than sites outside of ancestral CpG dinucleotides. This result reflects a systematic variation of mutation rates (mutability) at exon flanks, depending on the local CpG contexts. Remarkably, we observed a significant reduction of the nucleotide substitution rate in flanks of alternatively spliced exons, independent of the site-by-site variation in mutability due to different CpG contexts. Our data provide concrete evidence for increased purifying selection at exon flanks associated with regulation of alternative splicing.

Description of the transfer function of an optical system with wavelet transforms.

According to the wavefront filtering idea of wavelet optics, the transfer function of an optical system is described with a wavelet scale function. In the transfer function described with a wavelet scale function, different scale parameters a,c and shift parameters b,d correspond to different subtransfer functions, which correspond to different situations of the optical system. According to the request of the optical system, by adjusting all these scale parameters, not only can we obtain the optical images under different conditions, but we can also obtain the singular points under this scale parameter; hence a more ideal output can be obtained by such processing. The transfer function described with a wavelet scale function can be adjusted according to the request of the optical system, which makes the described transfer function self-adjustable. According to all types of disturbing effects to the system, by adjusting the scale and shift parameters, the practical form of the transfer function of an optical system can be confirmed, which satisfies the request of the self-adjustability of the optical imaging system. The result of our analysis shows that describing the transfer function of an optical system with a wavelet scale function is not only feasible but also satisfies the request of the self-adjustability of the optical imaging system, and different optical systems can be described by different wavelet scale parameters. This work breaks from the formal additional describing mode of the transfer function of an optical system and makes description of the transfer function of an optical system convenient.

In vivo biomechanics of the fingerpad skin under local tangential traction.

Small patches of fingerpad glabrous skin in human subjects were tested in vivo for their biomechanical properties under tangential loading and for large deformations. These conditions included stretching and shearing the skin at a length scale of 0.3mm using an apparatus comprising a pair of piezoelectric benders arranged to increase the stiffness/free deflection tradeoff when compared to ordinary cantilevered benders. It was then possible to test the skin with up to 80% of tangential strain. With feedback control, it was also possible to create isotonic and isometric testing conditions. The results showed much variability across subjects and it was seen that the glabrous skin exhibited nonlinear stiffening in tangential traction. The skin was consistently more elastic across the ridges than along the ridges regardless of the location of the sample on the fingerpad. The skin behaved visco-elastically but relaxed about twice as fast than it crept. Finally, it was found that under large deformation, there was consistently 80% of hysteretic loss for a wide range of loading conditions.

Polystyrene/Fe3O4 magnetic emulsion and nanocomposite prepared by ultrasonically initiated miniemulsion polymerization.

Ultrasonically initiated miniemulsion polymerization of styrene in the presence of Fe3O4 nanoparticles was successfully employed to prepare polystyrene (PS)/Fe3O4 magnetic emulsion and nanocomposite. The effects of Fe3O4 nanoparticles on miniemulsion polymerization process, the structure, morphology and properties of PS/Fe3O4 nanocomposite were investigated. The increase in the amount of Fe3O4 nanoparticles drastically increases the polymerization rate due to that Fe3O4 nanoparticles increase the number of radicals and the cavitation bubbles. Polymerization kinetics of ultrasonically initiated miniemulsion polymerization is similar to that of conventional miniemulsion polymerization. PS/Fe3O4 magnetic emulsion consists of two types of particles: latex particles with Fe3O4 nanoparticles and latex particles with no encapsulated Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Fe3O4 nanoparticles lower the molecular weight of PS and broaden the molecular weight and particle size distribution. Thermal stability of PS/Fe3O4 nanocomposite increases with the increase in Fe3O4 content. PS/Fe3O4 emulsion and nanocomposite exhibit magnetic properties. PS/Fe3O4 magnetic particles can be separated from the magnetic emulsion by an external magnetic field and redispersed into the emulsion with agitation.

Partially coherent accessible solitons in strongly nonlocal media.

We study the propagation of incoherent accessible solitons in strongly nonlocal media with arbitrary response function. Based on the linear propagation equation and the mutual coherence function approach, we obtain an exact analytical solution of such incoherent accessible solitons. The solitons radius is related to the total power as well as the coherence characteristics of the incoherent beam. We find that there is not a threshold for incoherent solitons exist in strongly nonlocal media because the model is linear. Evolution behaviors of the solitons width and the coherence radius are also described when the solitons undergo linear harmonic oscillation.

Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with FOLFOX4 chemotherapy for unresectable recurrent rectal cancer.

AIM: To investigate the effect of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3-DCRT) in combination with FOLFOX4 chemotherapy for unresectable recurrent rectal cancer. METHODS: Forty-eight patients with unresectable recurrent rectal cancer were randomized and treated by 3-DCRT or 3-DCRT combined with FOLFOX4 chemotherapy between September 2001 and October 2003. For the patients without prior radiation history, the initial radiation was given to the whole pelvis by traditional methods with tumor dose of 40 Gy, followed by 3-DCRT for the recurrent lesions to the median total cumulative tumor dose of 60 Gy (range 56-66 Gy); for the post-radiation recurrent patients, 3-DCRT was directly given for the recurrent lesions to the median tumor dose of 40 Gy (36-46 Gy). For patients in the study group, two cycles chemotherapy with FOLFOX4 regimen were given concurrently with radiotherapy, with the first cycle given simultaneously with the initiation of radiation and the second cycle given in the fifth week for patients receiving conventional pelvis radiation or given in the last week of 3-DCRT for patients receiving 3-DCRT directly. Another 2-4 cycles (average 3.6 cycles) sequential FOLFOX4 regimen chemotherapy were given to the patients in the study group, beginning at 2-3 wk after chemoradiation. The outcomes of symptoms relieve, tumor response, survival and toxicity were recorded and compared between the study group and the control group. RESULTS: For the study group and the control group, the pain-alleviation rates were 95.2% and 91.3% (P > 0.05); the overall response rates were 56.5% and 40.0% (P > 0.05); the 1-year and 2-year survival rates were 86.9%, 50.2% and 80.0%, 23.9%, with median survival time of 25 mo and 16 mo (P < 0.05); the 2-year distant metastasis rates were 39.1% and 56.0% (P = 0.054), respectively. The side effects, except peripheral neuropathy which was relatively severer in the study group, were similar in the the two groups and well tolerated. CONCLUSION: Three-dimensional conformal radio-therapy combined with FOLFOX4 chemotherapy for unresectable recurrent rectal cancer is a feasible and effective therapeutic approach, and can reduce distant metastasis rate and improve the survival rate.

Recombined DNA vaccines encoding calreticulin linked to HPV6bE7 enhance immune response and inhibit angiogenic activity in B16 melanoma mouse model expressing HPV 6bE7 antigen.

Calreticulin (CRT) has been reported to have an effect of upregulating MHC class I presentation as well as inhibiting angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. Combination of dual mechanisms of enhanced immunogenicity of human papillomavirus (HPV) 6bE7 antigen and antiangiogenesis may be introduced in the strategy of vaccines against condyloma acuminatum (CA) resulting from HPV infection. Therefore, we constructed DNA vaccines by employing different lengths of CRT chimerically linked to a model antigen HPV6bE7 and investigated the immunological and antiangiogenic effects of these vaccines in a B16 melanoma model that express HPV6bE7 antigen. Our results showed that vaccination with CRT180/HPV6bE7 or CRT120/HPV6bE7 enhanced the presence of CD8(+) T cells and TCRgammadelta T cells in vivo, increased the specific lysis activity against E7-expressing cells and secretion levels of IL-2 and IFN-gamma by activating T cells in vitro significantly. Moreover, recombined CRT180 or CRT120 with HPV6bE7 vaccines could elicit a more efficient E7-specific immune response than HPV6bE7 alone. The similarity of immunological enhancement of CRT180/HPV6bE7 and CRT120/HPV6bE7 implies that the immunologically active region mainly exist in fragment 1-120 aa. Furthermore, CRT180/HPV6bE7 and CRT180 displayed remarkable superiority over CRT120/HPV6bE7 in vivo angiogenesis assay, suggesting that the antiangiogenic activity of CRT resides in a domain between aa 120 and 180. Vaccination with CRT180/HPV6bE7 generated the best protective effect of delaying tumor formation and reduction of tumor size in tumor growth inhibition experiment among all DNA constructs. Therefore, CRT180/HPV6bE7 vaccine may enhance the immunological response to HPV6bE7 and inhibit angiogenesis. This construct may be useful in preventing HPV-associated dermatosis and may be developed as a promising strategy to control CA.

Inactivation of human MAD2B in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells leads to chemosensitization to DNA-damaging agents.

Rev7p has been suggested to play an important role in regulating DNA damage response in yeast, and recently, the human homologue (i.e., MAD2B) has been identified, which shares significant homology to the mitotic checkpoint protein MAD2. In this study, we investigated whether MAD2B played a key role in cellular sensitivity to DNA-damaging anticancer drugs by suppressing its expression using RNA interference in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells. Using colony formation assay, we found that suppression of MAD2B conferred hypersensitivity to a range of DNA-damaging agents, especially DNA cross-linkers, such as cisplatin, and gamma-irradiation. This effect was associated with reduced frequencies of spontaneous and drug-induced mutations, elevated phosphorylation of histone H2AX, and markedly increased chromosomal aberrations in response to DNA damage. In addition, there was also a significant decrease in cisplatin-induced sister chromatid exchange rate, a marker for homologous recombination-mediated post-replication repair in MAD2B-depleted cells. These results indicate that MAD2B may be a key factor in regulating cellular response to DNA damage in cancer cells. Our findings reveal a novel strategy for cancer therapy, in which cancer cells are sensitized to DNA-damaging anticancer drugs through inactivation of the MAD2B gene.

[Minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty with anterior incision].

OBJECTIVE: To report the clinical outcome of minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty with anterior incision. METHODS: One hundred and twenty cases were randomly divided into two groups. Sixty cases (group 1) who had undergone a mini-invasive THA were compared with 60 cases (group 2) who had undergone THA with standard posterolateral incision. The operation time, length of incision, blood loss, anteversion angle of acetabulum cup, Harris score and complications were observed. RESULT: The average operation time was almost the same; The average length of incision for group 1 was 7.9 cm (7.4 - 9.0 cm) and 16.3 cm (14 - 22 cm) for group 2 (P < 0.01). The average blood loss for group 1 was 350 ml (250 - 530 ml) and 650 ml (400 - 1200 ml) for group 2, there was significant difference between two groups (P < 0.05). According to the postoperative X-ray, the mean anteversion angles of cup were 24 degrees (19 degrees - 27 degrees) for group 1 and 19 degrees (15 degrees - 22 degrees) for group 2. The average length of post-operative hospital stay was 7 days (5 - 8 days) in group 1 and 13.5 days (12 - 16 days) in group 2 (P < 0.05). The Harris score of group 1 was 91.4 (67 - 94) and 78.5 (67 - 91) for group 2 at the 3 month follow-up (P < 0.05). At the last follow up, there were no significant difference (P > 0.05), but the average ROM of group 1 were definitely more greater than that of group 2 (110.0 degrees +/- 3.2 degrees vs. 90.0 degrees +/- 2.9 degrees P < 0.05). There was 1 case of cup reinsertion in group 1 because of large anteversion angle; 2 cases of symptomatic DVT and 1 case of lethargy because of cerebral infarction happened in group 2. CONCLUSIONS: Minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty using anterior approach is a safe and effective technique with the advantages of less soft tissue damage and less blood loss.

PSI-DOCK: towards highly efficient and accurate flexible ligand docking.

We have developed a new docking method, Pose-Sensitive Inclined (PSI)-DOCK, for flexible ligand docking. An improved SCORE function has been developed and used in PSI-DOCK for binding free energy evaluation. The improved SCORE function was able to reproduce the absolute binding free energies of a training set of 200 protein-ligand complexes with a correlation coefficient of 0.788 and a standard error of 8.13 kJ/mol. For ligand binding pose exploration, a unique searching strategy was designed in PSI-DOCK. In the first step, a tabu-enhanced genetic algorithm with a rapid shape-complementary scoring function is used to roughly explore and store potential binding poses of the ligand. Then, these predicted binding poses are optimized and compete against each other by using a genetic algorithm with the accurate SCORE function to determine the binding pose with the lowest docking energy. The PSI-DOCK 1.0 program is highly efficient in identifying the experimental binding pose. For a test dataset of 194 complexes, PSI-DOCK 1.0 achieved a 67% success rate (RMSD < 2.0 A) for only one run and a 74% success rate for 10 runs. PSI-DOCK can also predict the docking binding free energy with high accuracy. For a test set of 64 complexes, the correlation between the experimentally observed binding free energies and the docking binding free energies for 64 complexes is r = 0.777 with a standard deviation of 7.96 kJ/mol. Moreover, compared with other docking methods, PSI-DOCK 1.0 is extremely easy to use and requires minimum docking preparations. There is no requirement for the users to add hydrogen atoms to proteins because all protein hydrogen atoms and the flexibility of the terminal protein atoms are intrinsically taken into account in PSI-DOCK. There is also no requirement for the users to calculate partial atomic charges because PSI-DOCK does not calculate an electrostatic energy term. These features are not only convenient for the users but also help to avoid the influence of different preparation methods.

Association of IL-7 with disease progression in Chinese HIV-1 seropositive individuals.

BACKGROUND: Elevated levels of interleukin-7 (IL-7) have been correlated with CD4(+) T cell depletion and the emergence of syncytium-inducing (SI) variants in human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) infection, and suggested as an indicator of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) disease progression. Therefore, we investigated the effects of IL-7 on disease progression and virus phenotype in Chinese HIV/AIDS patients. METHODS: In a cross-sectional study of 71 untreated HIV-1 seropositive individuals and 12 healthy donors, plasma IL-7 levels were determined by an ultra sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and its relations to CD4(+) T cells, CD8(+) T cells, plasma viral loads and HIV phenotypes were analyzed. RESULTS: Significant higher IL-7 levels were found in Chinese HIV/AIDS patients [(3.33 +/- 3.60) pg/ml] than those of health controls [(1.2 +/- 0.81) pg/ml] (P < 0.05), and IL-7 levels were inversely associated with CD4(+) T cell counts (r = -0.497, P < 0.01). Furthermore, IL-7 levels were significant higher in patients with SI variants [(9.12 +/- 4.55) pg/ml] than those with non-syncytium-inducing variants [(1.50 +/- 2.69) pg/ml] (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Increased IL-7 levels were found in Chinese HIV/AIDS patients and significantly associated with disease progression, thus increased IL-7 plasma levels may indicate disease progression.

A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for determination of the niguldipine analogue DHP-014.

A simple and reliable reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography method was developed and validated for the determination of DHP-014, a niguldipine analogue with potent P-glycoprotein inhibitory and negligible calcium channel blocking properties, in rat plasma. DHP-014 and niguldipine hydrochloride (the internal standard) were extracted from rat plasma by liquid extraction using hexane. DHP-014 was then separated by HPLC on a C18 column and quantified by ultraviolet detection at 238 nm. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile-aqueous 5 mM phosphate buffer (65:35, v/v) containing 0.4% (v/v) triethylamine adjusted to pH 7.0. The mean extraction efficiency of DHP-014 was 109.0 +/- 12.9, 97.7 +/- 8.0 and 102.9 +/- 7.5% for DHP-014 concentrations of 10, 50 and 100 nM, respectively (n = 5). The method was linear over the concentration range 2.5-200 nM with a regression coefficient of 0.998. The limit of detection of DHP-014 in rat plasma was 1.0 nM. The intra- and inter-day coefficients of variation for DHP-014 in rat plasma were 4.7-7.9 and 6.9-9.9%, respectively. The intra- and inter-day accuracy was 98.2-99.5 and 97.9-103%, respectively. The bioanalytical technique was used to determine DHP-014 in plasma samples in a pharmacokinetic study of DHP-014 administered to female Sprague-Dawley rats.

Preparation of DHAQ-loaded mPEG-PLGA-mPEG nanoparticles and evaluation of drug release behaviors in vitro/in vivo.

This study describes the preparation and the evaluation of biodegradation monomethoxy (polyethylene glycol)-poly (lactide-co-glycolide)-monomethoxy (polyethyleneglycol) (mPEG-PLGA-mPEG, PELGE) nanoparticles (PELGE-NP) containing mitoxantrone (DHAQ) as a model drug. PELGE copolymers with various molar ratios of lactic to glycolic acid and different molecular weights and various content mPEG were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization. mPEG with weight-average molecular weight (Mw) 2,000 or 5,000 was introduced as a hydrophilic segment into a hydrophobic PLGA. A double emulsion method with dextran70 as stabilizer in the external aqueous phase was used to prepare the nanoparticles. The drug entrapment efficiencies were more than 80% and the mean diameters of the nanoparticles were less than 200 nm. Various PELGE was studied as biodegradable drug carriers and there in vitro/in vivo release profiles were examined. It was found that drug loading, polymer molecular weight, copolymer composition and end group modifications were critical factors affecting the in vitro/in vivo release properties. The amount of drug released increased as the mPEG contents increased and the molar ratios of lactic acid decreased in vitro. The intravenous (i.v.) administration of mPEG-PLGA-mPEG nanoparticles of DHAQ in mice resulted in prolonged DHAQ residence in systemic blood circulation compared to the intravenous administration of PLGA nanoparticles.
