Venous pressure in idiopathic varicocele.

In 27 patients with clinically identified idiopathic left varicocele, a retrograde venography and a combined pressure measurement in the vena cava, vena renalis and vena spermatica was performed. During Valsalva maneuver the pressure values increased. We could not confirm increased pressure values in the left renal vein dependent on the patient's position. There were no increasing pressure gradients between vena renalis and vena cava in erect position. Therefore an elevated pressure in the left renal vein and especially the 'upper nutcracker' does seem to be of at least limited importance for the pathogenesis of idiopathic varicocele.

[Gluing of the Achilles tendon with a fibrin adhesive].

Reported in this paper are clinical findings and results obtained from follow-up checks, using computed tomography, in the wake of fibrin adhesive treatment of Achilles tendon ruptures. Complaints had almost completely disappeared from 27 in 35 patients who had undergone the above operations, between 1981 and 1985. These findings were confirmed by functional follow-up examinations. Investigations of Achilles tendons, using computed tomography, revealed increase in both tendon cross-section and density, within two to eight weeks from fibrin-adhesive surgery.

[The transrectal sonography of the carcinoma of the prostate gland (author's transl)].

320 transrectal sonograms of the prostate gland were performed. 59 of these showed a carcinoma of the prostate. This corresponds in 86% of the cases with the usual criteria (form, intraprostatic structure, capsule homogeneity). In most cases an increase in density of the intraprostatic structure was the most obvious feature. The differentiation between carcinoma and chronic. prostatitis is in some cases not possible. Besides establishing the structure, the exact size of the organ can be determined. In this way, by routine checks on patients undergoing radiation therapy statements can be made about the changes in size.

[Controlled study on the efficacy of external treatment in surface-near thrombophlebitis].

The efficacy of an organo-heparinoid ointment (Hirudoid 40,000) compared with a placebo ointment was tested in a double blind trial on 40 patients with post-operative infusion thrombophlebitis. It was possible to provide objective data by means of the 125I-fibrinogen test for accelerated regression of thrombi following treatment with organo-heparinoid. The differences found between the 2 treatment groups were statistically significant. The clinical results conformed largely to the measured data. Especially pain and swelling were favourably affected by treatment with the active compound. 1 case of local allergic reaction to organo-heparinoid was observed. No further side-effects were seen.
