A sub-capsular haematoma of the liver is a rare but very serious complication of pregnancy. We report a case of a primipara whose pregnancy was first complicated by hypertension, then by a haematoma of the liver at the 28th week of amenorrhoea. It was diagnosed because of the clinical symptoms associated with the hypertension and a pain in the right hypochondrium and nausea. The diagnosis of haematoma of the liver was made before rupture and confirmed by ultrasound of the liver and by tomodensitometry made it possible to avoid operating on the liver during the laparotomy that was carried out to terminate the pregnancy. Regular X-ray follow-ups showed that the lesion had regressed in six months. MRI investigation of the parenchyma of the liver showed no cause of the lesions. If there is even the slightest suspicion of a haematoma of the liver in pregnancy, ultrasound nowadays should be carried out because it is indispensable to make the diagnosis.

The identification and quantitation from pooled human plasma of over 50 molecular species of triacylglycerols, including 22 not previously reported, are reported. The triacylglycerols were first resolved by silver ion thin-layer chromatography into seven fractions, which were independently analysed by polarizable capillary gas chromatography and desorption chemical ionization mass spectrometry in the presence of an internal standard. The two methods gave similar values for the estimates of oligoenoic species, but the former method underestimated the polyenes (due mainly to significant losses caused by thermal degradation), and the latter method overestimated the saturates. The results show that an effective analysis of molecular species of plasma triacylglycerols cannot be obtained by either technique alone.
The use of LH-RH agonists is appropriate for the stimulation of ovulation. In contrast, in the case of induction of ovulation in a patient with deficient ovulation, suppression of influences of the hypothalamo-pituitary axis does not modify the pathological condition responsible for the ovulatory anomaly.

MK-801 is a non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist with anticonvulsant and neuroprotective properties. The action of MK-801 (0.05-10 mg/kg IP) was assessed against pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures (PTZ; 100 mg/kg SC; 30 min after MK-801) in rats aged 7, 12, 18, 25, and 90 days (N = 263). We observed pronounced ataxia and hypermobility after MK-801 pretreatment during the whole ontogenesis, and the animals exhibited head-weaving and body-rolls. After the combination of MK-801 and PTZ "wet dog shakes" were detected in 18-, 25-, and 90-day-old rats (never seen in controls receiving PTZ only). MK-801 only insignificantly modified the latencies of minimal (clonic) seizures in 18-day-old and older rats where this seizure type is regularly elicited. In 12-day-old rats an increased incidence of minimal seizures was detected. MK-801 nearly completely blocked or strongly delayed major (generalized tonic-clonic) seizures and attenuated the seizure severity during ontogenesis in a dose-dependent manner. Present results suggest the important role of NMDA receptors in the genesis of generalized tonic-clonic seizures whilst the role of NMDA receptors in minimal seizures appears to be negligible during the whole ontogenetic development.
Catecholamines (dopamine and norepinephrine) are considered to be predominantly inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain and their depletion produced by 6-hydroxydopamine may result in proconvulsant effects. In our experiments on rats aged 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 18, 25 and 90 days under urethane anesthesia we demonstrated the development of neocortical epileptic focus evoked by topical application of bicuculline methiodide. In experimental groups aged 7, 12, 18, 25 and 90 days a chronic depletion of catecholamines was induced using pretreatment with 6-hydroxydopamine early postnatally. An epileptogenic focus was induced in all age groups; duration of a single discharge decreased with age in both control and experimental animals. The spread of activity from the primary focus to contralateral frontal cortex via callosal connections was as rapid as in controls. However, the transfer of discharge to occipital regions was delayed and the number of discharges decreased in experimental rats. Our study demonstrated a substantial role of catecholamines for synchronization of focal discharges in neocortex and a promoting role of catecholamines in association pathways within neocortex.
Motor seizures elicited by isonicotinehydrazide (INH) were studied in 188 male albino rats aged from 5 days to adulthood. INH was found to be able to induce both minimal, predominantly clonic, and major, i.e. generalized, tonic-clonic seizures during the whole course of development. Tonic hindlimb extension was observed as a part of major seizures even in the youngest group studied. Fifty-percent convulsant doses counted in 7-, 12-, 18-, 25- and 90-day-old rats did not significantly differ. The developmental changes found were a poor time resolution of minimal and major seizures during the first two postnatal weeks and significantly longer latency of major seizures in 5- and 7-day-old rat pups in comparison with all other age groups. The importance of the developmental stage of a generator of seizures as well as of the maturation of triggering mechanisms was demonstrated comparing the present results with our previous data.
Through flow cytometry, we have analysed DNA content of cervical cells recovered by scrapping the uterine cervix in 1) 103 women without human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), 2) 42 patients with HPV infection without CIN, and 45 patients with CIN. We have observed four different DNA patterns: 1) normal DNA pattern, 2) increased and heterogeneous DNA pattern (IH), 3) increased S G2 + M phases, and 4) DNA aneuploid pattern. Statistical calculation has emphasized the significant correlation linking flow cytometric DNA pattern with cytologic diagnosis. HPV infection without CIN was associated with IH DNA pattern and CIN with increased S G2 + M phases or DNA aneuploid pattern. These results point out the interest of flow cytometric analysis of DNA content in uterine cervix pathology and in more extend in infectious or preneoplastic pathology.

Seven cases of pelvic endometriosis of the urinary or digestive tracts are reported: 4 cases of vesical endometriosis, 1 case of ureteral involvement, 1 rectal case and 1 sigmoid location. The authors point out the difficulty of the clinical preoperative diagnosis--in despite of cyclic troubles--and underline the interest of complementary explorations performed at the time of periods: ultrasound, cystoscopy, rectosigmoïdoscopy and coelioscopy. The MR imaging, showing high intensity a T1-weighted images and prominent high intensity on T2-weighted images, is very suggestive of an endometrial lesions. A joint medical and surgical treatment is required. Endoscopic excision, endoprothetic tube, excision-suture, resection-anastomosis and a complementary medical treatment using Danazol, Decapeptyl or progestational agents have to be proposed. Per-operative microscopy is advised as routine procedure in order to avoid excessive surgery.
The study involved 70 patients considered to be sterile and in whom hysterosalpingography showed no tubal passage. Selective catheterisation enabled opacification under pressure in more than 80 p. cent of cases, with perfect visualisation of the entire tubes and significant peritoneal passage. In the presence of obstructive stenosis, disobstruction-reacanalisation using a soft probe was attempted with success in more than one case out of two. Future perspectives of selective salpingography appear to be very large. This technique seems to have a large number of indications apart from transport problems: recanalisation, sterilisation, and tubal antibiotic sensitivity studies.
