[The role of computerized tomography in the diagnosis of primary lung cancer].

A CT-examination of 87 patients with various types of central cancer of the lung was carried out. Computed-tomography scanning is a highly-sensitive method of radiodiagnosis which detects respiratory system lesions, stage, predominant area of involvement and condition of adjacent tissues. On the basis of CT-related features of tumor, type and stage can be identified to choose optimal therapy and follow-up.

[Postoperative computerized tomography of thoracic organs in lung cancer patients].

The report discusses the data on the complex radiation examination of 40 lung cancer patients at different stages of postoperative follow-up. Standard X-ray procedures and CT of thoracic organs were carried out. Considerable advantages offered by CT were recorded in the assessment of the pleural cavity, the remaining part of the lung and mediastinal organs. CT evidence played an important role in making differential diagnosis of relapse and other postoperative changes.

[The computed tomographic morphometry of the brain in minimal brain dysfunction in children 5 to 7 years old].

Computed tomography (CT) morphometry of the brain in preschool children in the critical period reflects the dynamic process of the brain formation, multidirectional laterality of the hemispheres. Close relationships between neuropsychological and CT results demonstrate general tendency of the neuro-ontogenetic process comprising reciprocal interaction of functional activity and structural arrangement of the brain compartments.

[Potential for ultrasonic diagnosis in determining the nature of a bulky lesion of the liver].

Ultrasound investigation (USI) of the liver was performed in 6570 patients, focal lesions were detected in 80 (1.2%). Of them 53 patients (66.2%) had a benign process, 27 (33.8%)--a malignant process. Four variants of focal pathology with its specific nature were singled out on the basis of analysis of the echo structure. Anechogenic foci reflected a cystic process, foci of mixed echo density--malignant lesions (a metastasis, liver cancer). The determination of the nature of echo-dense and low echogenic foci is the most complex problem of USI. In most cases echo-dense foci reflected benign liver tumors (7:1). USI in 56.3% of patients permitted the recognition of the nature of a sizable liver tumor without resorting to other radiation-methods; in another one-third of patients--during dynamic observation.

[Possibilities of the ultrasonic method of examination in identifying large lesions of the abdominal cavity and small pelvis organs].

Analysis was made of 13201 ultrasonic studies (USS) of abdominal and small pelvic organs in 5500 patients admitted to the therapeutic department of the multiple-discipline hospital to identify sizable injuries. As many as 176 sizable injuries to the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, retroperitoneal space and other organs were recognized. Of these, 52 injuries appeared malignant. Fifty-eight sizable injuries including 12 malignant ones had been diagnosed at the preclinical stage. The prophylactic USS of the abdominal cavity should as minimum include USS of the liver and kidneys with adjacent tissues. The USS of the pancreas should be carried out provided the patient is suspected of having an organ injury. The internal sex organs of the women, the prostate and urinary bladder should be examined if indicated by proper specialists.

[Dynamics of coronary artery lumina during tests with cold and with intracoronary and sublingual administration of nitroglycerin in patients with different clinical forms of stenocardia].

Cold tests and those using intracoronary or sublingual nitroglycerin administration were applied during coronarography to 50 coronary patients with varying clinical manifestations of angina pectoris. The quantitative assessment of angiographic patterns showed the cold and nitroglycerin tests to change significantly the extent of stenosis in patients with spontaneous angina (by +13.3 and -30.8%, respectively) and those with angina of effort and at rest (by +5.6 and -12.0%, respectively) and have no such effect in patients with angina of effort. The change in the stenosed coronary arterial lumen was more marked in cases of excentric localization of the atherosclerotic patch inside the coronary artery, as compared to the concentric arterial narrowing. The data obtained demonstrate the variability of coronary arterial lumen at the site of atherosclerotic stenosis in a certain population of patients.
