[The alcoholic in the post-withdrawal periods. Conditions of their care and results after 2 years. Apropos of 200 cases].

The authors report on two years of their experience in caring for alcoholics after withdrawal. In evaluating results, improvements in asthenia, depression, and anxiety, as well as in the aptitude to resume a normal life, with satisfactory familial, conjugal, sexual, professional and social achievements, are considered. Overall results are given in terms of abstinence, relapse, hospitalization, and normalization of behavior and character.

[Comparative study of the 3 beta-hydroxy-delta 5-steroid dehydrogenase activity of the mitochondrial and microsomal fractions of human and cat placentas].

Delta 5, 3 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity was studied on mitochondrial and microsomal fractions of human and cat placentas. This activity was assessed by measuring the rate of [3H] progesterone formation from [3H] pregnenolone and of [3H] delta 4-androstenedione from [3H] dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA), by a double isotope dilution method. Specific activities measured under initial velocity conditions were similar in both human and cat placentas. However, the kinetics of the reaction with DHA as substrate exhibit a zoological specificity.

[Influence of an injection of chorionic hormone (HCG) on the accumulation of testicular fluid following ligature of the vas deferens in adult Wistar rats].

Using the weight gain of the testis after efferent duct ligation, we have measured the testis fluid secretion. A single injection of HCG to Rats before, at the time or after the ligation leads to three types of effects: no effect which can be explained by the metabolisation of the hormone: a positive and/or a negative one. If the stimulating action of HCG remains unexplained, it must be related with ether anaesthesia. It seems likely that the decrease of testicular fluid secretion may represent the fundamental action of HCG upon the exocrine function of the testis, but the mecanism by which this action occurs remains to be solved.

[Influence of spermatogenesis on testicular fluid secretion in adult rats].

Unilateral efferent duct ligature mainatined for 24 h in adult Wistar rats, shows that the secretion of testicular fluid elevates progressively with the age of animals (from 10 mg/g/h at a 100 days to 13 mg/g/h at a 150 days). This technique when applied to rats in which spermatogenesis is temporarily inhibited by busulphan shows, by contrast with control animals, a change in the secretion of testicular fluid which is the converse of the variation of spermatogenesis.
