The murine leukemia viruses of Rauscher and Friend, derived from plasnma of infected Balb/c mice, was purified. Their antigenic relationship was studied by quantitative complement-fixation reactions with the virion antigen and homologous antiserums. The complement-fixation curves observed in cross-reactions indicated close antigenic similarity between these two leukemia viruses. Highly purified viral preparations contained detectable amounts of host antigens.

A screening scale for depression, based on HSCL depression scale items, was used during a one-year period in a rural general medical practice. The estimated prevalence of depression was 8.8% for severe (probable depressive disorder) depression, 18.3% for moderate (depressive syndrome) depression, and 28.3% for mild depression. For all three levels of depression, there were significant relationships to sex and to marital status. For the higher level of depression, probable depressive disorder, there were significant relationships to age and to retirement status; these relationships were not evident at the moderate or the mild levels of depression.
The patient discussed in this report had acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMML) associated with infectious mononucleosis. Infectious mononucleosis (IM) in association with acute leukemia (AL) has provided clinical investigators an active area of speculation for several years. Nineteen cases are presented for review in Table 1. The present case represents the second case of AMML to be associated with IM. It is the first case of a granulocytic leukemia reported in which active IM is occurring simultaneously with the onset of AL. Also, it represents the first case of associated IM-AL in which the diagnosis of IM is supported by lymphocyte culture data. This may represent a mechanism for additional investigation in future cases.
