Topographical characterization of normal visual evoked responses.

A study of visual evoked responses in a normal population was carried out using a high-precision programmable stimulator and an innovative brain mapping system which presents the overall activity on a three dimensional surface representing the human head. The interpolation method used gives a more precise computation of the potential value between electrodes. Two normal distributions of visual responses are presented which were identified while trying to topographically characterize visual evoked responses in order to construct a comparative data base. The proposed classification of two normal groups was verified by means of a statistical topographic analysis with the significance probability mapping technique.

Effects of solvation on the ionization and conformation of raclopride and other antidopaminergic 6-methoxysalicylamides: insight into the pharmacophore.

Previous work has shown that raclopride in water at neutral pH exists in a zwitterionic form, suggesting a stereoelectronic structure largely different from that of other benzamides. In the present study, the acid-base behavior of other 6-methoxysalicylamides is shown to be comparable to that of raclopride. An extensive investigation by high-temperature molecular dynamics gave insight into the conformational behavior of neutral and zwitterionic raclopride in vacuum and in water. Partitioning of raclopride and a more rigid analogue with characterization (by first-derivative UV spectroscopy) of the predominant forms in the organic phase indicated that only neutral, internally H-bonded forms partition into the organic solvent. Thus, the predominant forms of 6-methoxysalicylamides will be very different in the aqueous and organic phases. In the latter phase, and hence presumably also in the receptor phase, the drugs exist with a neutral, internally H-bonded phenolic group and are therefore stereoelectronically similar to other substituted benzamides.

[Critical analysis of the different methods for the determination of aminoglycosides. Application to follow-up of treatment].

A serum aminoglycoside assay is indicated so that there will be no loss of efficacy resulting from insufficient dosages chosen to reduce the risks of toxicity inherent in this type of antibiotics. It is also indicated so that excessive dosages and their resulting toxicity may be avoided. There are different assay methods for each one, the cost, reproducibility, sensitivity and specificity should be considered at the time of selection. Among methods which do not use radioactive material, the EMIT and TDA systems are more or less similar in terms of the above points and could soon be used for dibekacine assays. The microbiological method rivals all other methods in every way except in regard to speed. But it cost less and enables a "genuine" appraisal of the antibiotic.
