[Sexual dysfunction in chronic painful radicular syndrome and the ways of its correction].

As many as 120 men suffering from chronic recurrent radicular syndrome of the lumbosacral localization were discovered to have premorbid weakness of sexual constitution and phenomena of functional hypogonadism manifesting itself in imbalance of gonadotropic hormones and sexual dysfunction. To correct the disorders found, use was made of chorionic gonadotropin as part of multimodality therapy, which led to acceleration of painful radicular syndrome regress, less frequent occurrence of disease relapses and contributed to sexual rehabilitation if combined with familial psychotherapy.

[Pathogenesis of cerebral disorders in hepatocerebral dystrophy].

On the basis of data obtained in the course of long-term observation of more than 60 patients with hepatocerebral dystrophy and analysis of the literature the authors consider the problems related to the pathogenesis of cerebral disorders in this disease. It has been found that the underlying mechanisms of the disorder is chronic intoxication of the central nervous system which is induced by the glut of "non-ceruloplasmin" copper and brings about a cascade of secondary metabolic disturbances, including defect of the amino acid pool in the blood plasma, zinc deficit, and disorders of redox processes. The possible role of each of these disorders has been considered in the pathogenesis of cerebral disturbances associated with hepatocerebral dystrophy.

[Plasma non-ceruloplasmin copper in hepatocerebral dystrophy (criterion for the diagnosis and evaluation of cuprogogue therapy)].

Results of determining the plasma levels of non-coeruloplasmin copper in 29 patients with hepatocerebral dystrophy (before and during cuprogogue therapy) and in 15 practically healthy individuals are presented. A statistically significant rise of this level (as compared with that in the control group) was revealed in the patients with Wilson-Konovaloff's disease. The clinical improvement of the patients with hepatocerebral dystrophy was accompanied by normalization of the plasma level of non-coeruloplasmin copper. This gives one grounds to conclude that this parameter can be used as a criterion for evaluating the efficacy of the treatment given.

[State of the ascorbate and thiol-disulfide systems in brain concussions].

As a result of a clinico-experimental study data on the state of the thiol-disulfide and ascorbate systems in the acute period of brain concussion have been for the first time obtained, and the role of those systems in the development of the vegetative disturbances, hypoxia and increased vascular permeability has been specified. A good therapeutic effect from the use of penicillamine in this pathology is demonstrated. It is recommended that the determination of the state of the above systems should be used for observing the treatment efficacy and determining the duration of patients' hospitalization.
