In 48 families in which tuberous sclerosis occurred, extensive examination presented almost the same incidence of sporadic cases as reported in previous studies. Although inspection of the skin and cranial computed tomography seem to be the most sensitive diagnostic tests available, negative results with these methods do not exclude the diagnosis. Estimation of alpha 2-macroglobulin serum level does not mean an extension of the diagnostic arsenal.
This observation perfectly illustrates the main epidemiological, clinical and biological peculiarities of this parasitic disease. Particularly, as it concerns a tourist who travelled across Africa for a short period of time it is possible to assess the time of exposure to infecting mosquito bites, the maturation period of time as well as the time of clinical incubation. On the other hand the value of the immunological techniques to make the diagnosis of loaiasis as well as the difficulties to treat this affection are stressed upon.

The authors report four rare, benign tumors of the larynx: two granular cell tumors; one large, benign neuroma, weighing 37 g; one pseudo-tumoral amyloidosis, the diagnostic histological criteria of which are defined.
Typical cases of pollen allergen (hayfever, allergic asthma), together with isolated non-respiratory "equivalent" manifestations (urticaria, eye conditions, headache, etc.), are easy to detect on the basis of skin tests and the clinical history. Such manifestations may also occur in "false pollen allergy", related in most instances by atmospheric moulds (Dematiaceae), sometimes by house dust or dermatophytes (Candida Albicans, Trichophyton sp), by food or by a bacterial infection or allergy. A combination of pollen allergy and false pollen allergy is common. In cases of false pollen allergy the proportion of negative skin reactions would appear to worsen with the repeated use of prolonged action corticosteroid injections, given on a preventive basis. Similarly, these disorders, initially seasonal, change to more chronic manifestations throughout the year. Desensitization with aqueous extracts of allergens ensured the most complete protection against the causes of pollen allergy and false pollen allergy. Allergen extracts percipitated with alun (semi-retard extracts), more effective than tyrosine adsorbates (Pollinex) have the advantage of offering more rapid treatment without the risk of dangerous reactions. The best therapeutic results have obtained over the course of the last ten years, by the authors, combining on each occasion a semi-retard allergen with an aqueous allergen, thereby acquiring the benefit of the adjuvant effect of the first, in a course of ten to fifteen injections per year. Non specific therapy (antihistamines, cromoglycate, theophylline, etc.) retains all of its symptomatic indications. Oral corticosteroid therapy is better metabolized in the organism and has less of a disturbing effect on the circadian rhythm of cortisol, and is hence to be preferred to injections of delyaed action corticosteroid suspensions.
The authors report their experience of 32 cases of facial paralysis occurring during progressive chronic otitis. Twenty were pre-operative. The conclusions which may be drawn are as follows: 1) It occurs in general in cases of severe chronic otitis with large destructive cholesteatomatous and osteitic lesions. 2) Surgery is often difficult, long full of unexpected findings and risks. 3) The development of facial paralysis in a case of progressive chronic otitis is an indication for immediate surgery, on the same basis as a fistula of the H.S.C.C., which is, in fact, oftan present in association. 4) The lesions encountered are much more extensive at the time of secondary (11) rather than at primary surgery (9). 5) The extent of the lesions (13 cases of fistula or laybrinthine destruction) and auditory impairment (16 cophoses or sub-cophoses) are such that tympanoplasty is useless. The authors report their long term results: 13 cases of complete recovery, 4 nil, 3 partial (2 as a result of a superficial cervical plexus graft). They raise the problem of the management when a markedly contused nerve is discovered: simple liberation with incision of its sheath or immediate graft? The other twelve were postoperative. Five were cases operated upon by the autor. There was 100% recovery in all cases, but one patient, in whom the nerve followed an atypical course, required decompression surgery. In the other seven, the autors performed 3 decompressions followed by an excellent result, apart from in one case in which the nerve was markedly contused. In 2 cases a superficial cervical plexus graft and a XII-VII anastomosis proved necessary.
