[Results of the double-blind use of an alpha blockader, nicergoline, in cervico-prostatic dysfunctions].

A double-blind prospective trial investigated effects of Nicergoline on micturitional disorders in 60 selected patients with dysuria in the absence of prostate hypertrophy and neurologic disease. Results evaluated from 29 men treated with the product and 25 receiving placebo, taking into account functional improvement and urinary output variations, showed a statistically significant improvement in patients in the Nicergoline group.

Clinical Trials as Topic↗

[Urinary peritonitis caused by perforation following trans-intestinal ureterostomy. Apropos of 3 cases].

The authors report three cases of peritonitis due to perforation of an ileal loop diversion. Two cases occurred 21 and 26 days after surgery with a persistent lesion at the base of the graft. The third case, much more unusual, occurred 8 months after the operation due to a stress ulcer in the ileal loop. The three patients were successfully treated surgically but the ileal loop diversion could only be preserved in one case: the other patients underwent cutaneous ureterostomy. The authors distinguish between fistulae of intermediate and late onset after the operation. The first type of fistulae can be prevented by improvement of the surgical technique and drainage. The second type of fistulae may develop whenever an associated arterial pathology is present.

Aged↗

[Cancer of the prostate revealed by hemospermia in a young man].

The authors report a case of prostatic cancer in a 50-year-old patient, for which the sole clinical manifestation was recurrent hemospermia. There was an undoubted connection, in this case, between the hemospermia and the cancer, which is rare. The treatment was endoscopic associated with cobalt therapy. The follow-up is four years.

[Continuous peridural morphine analgesia in refractory pain in urology].

Peridural catheterization connected to a sub-cutaneous morphine reservoir can provide an effective and prolonged analgesia for certain pelvic pains of a urological origin which resist the usual sedative therapies. The authors describe the method of catheterization and the results which they have obtained in five patients treated in this way.

[Supplementary tests in pregnant women].

Additional examinations of pregnant women (radiology...) are a real danger, but radiographies CT scans and ultrasound examinations must be carried out when necessary.

Clinical Laboratory Techniques↗

[Urothelial cancers from Endoxan].

A case of carcinoma of the bladder in a patient treated for 20 years with Endoxan is reported. The role of this drug in the aetiology of an urothelial carcinoma was appeared to be demonstrated by the 35 published cases in the literature and should lead to a limitation of its prescription and to regulate urological surveillance of patients receiving the agent.

Adult↗

[Vesicoprostatic sarcomas].

The authors report three cases of prostatic sarcoma. One patient had been treated with chlorambucil, and another with cyclophosphamide, which may explain certain etiopathogenic theories. In fact, it has been demonstrated that ultrastructural studies are an essential factor in the classification of these sarcoma for which the prognosis is very poor.

[Diagnostic and prognostic contribution of electromyography in postoperative incontinence in men].

The authors have drawn up a classification of sphincteral lesions, using electromyographic criteria, with the aid of electromyograms of the striated sphincter of the urethra in forty eight patients treated surgically for prostatic adenoma, and presenting with postoperative incontinence persisting for more than eight days after removal of the catheter. This classification in turn serves as a basis for the drawing up of prognostic criteria for these incontinences, treated by electrotherapy.

[Tumors of the kidney and pregnancy].

The authors report two cases of angiomyolipomas which ruptured in the course of pregnancy, and a case of renal cancer revealed in pregnancy by arterial hypertension. Starting out from a review of the literature, they discuss the effects of pregnancy on the development of kidney tumors, and the corresponding diagnostic and therapeutic problems.

Adult↗

[Isolated arterial hypertension during pregnancy disclosing a malignant tumor of the kidney. Apropos of a case].

The authors report an observation of isolated hypertension during pregnancy; this hypertension has revealed a cancer of kidney. As hypertension has regressed after ablation of the tumor, the authors evoke physiopathological hypothesis. They insist about X Ray of kidney after pregnancy, for hypertensive pregnancy. It seems to be the best exam to discover an uropathy.

Adenocarcinoma↗

[Cancer of the kidney in adult. Report of an homogeneous series of eighty cases (author's transl)].

The authors report their experience of cancer of the kidney in adults involving a homogeneous series of eighty operated cases. They draw from this experience several conclusions concerning the clinical, diagnostic, therapeutical and prognostic aspects and underline three points; the interest of arteriography combined with embolization, the significance of an enlarged nephrectomy without lymphatic evidement, carried out with the least damage possible, and the abandoning of pre- and postoperative radiotherapy. Results seem encouraging since the survival rate reaches respectively 87,5 p. cent after five years and 66,9 p. cent after ten years for stage I, 55,5 p. cent after five years and 40 p. cent after ten years for stage II.
