Hyperparathyroidism due to primary cystic parathyroid adenoma.

Three cases of parathyroid cyst are reported, bringing the total of reported functional and nonfunctional parathyroid cysts to 157 cases. Based on our findings a cystic parathyroid adenoma should be defined as a macroscopic cyst with a diameter larger than 1 cm. The three reported cases of functional parathyroid cysts suggest that they are not as rare as reported. Parathyroid cyst should be considered in every patient with a palpable neck mass, certainly in patients with hyperparathyroidism and a fluid-filled lesion at sonography. Functional parathyroid cysts may be multiple, therefore all four parathyroid glands should be identified, as during exploration for hyperparathyroidism. Our three cases show a preference for the inferior site which is in agreement with the literature. Nonfunctional, generally solitary, parathyroid cysts can be cured by percutaneous aspiration.

Adenoma↗

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the hard palate.

In the past decades many changes have taken place in the classification of lymphoreticular malignancies. At present two main groups are recognized--Hodgkin's lymphomas and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Hodgkin's lymphomas rarely affect the oral cavity. The mouth, especially the soft tissues, is somewhat more frequently involved in cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. There seems to be some predilection for the mucosa of the palate. The present report describes eight patients in whom a swelling of the palatal mucosa led to the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The emphasis is on the clinical and microscopic aspects. The present most accepted histologic classifications have been applied and are briefly discussed.

Adenoma, Pleomorphic↗

Primary plasmacytoma of lymph nodes. A case report.

Most plasmacytomas of lymph nodes are secondary metastases from myeloma or from primary plasmacytoma of the upper air passages. Primary plasmacytomas of lymph nodes are very rare. A case of primary plasmacytoma of mediastinal, cervical and para-aortic lymph nodes is reported. Bence Jones proteinuria of 8 g/24 h was present. Repeated bone marrow examinations were normal. When the patient died, 17 months after the first symptoms, the bone marrow was still not involved.

Adult↗

Intermittent jaundice: a rare complication of a solitary nonparasitic liver cyst.

A case of a solitary nonparasitic liver cyst, presenting with intermittent jaundice, is described in a 61-year-old female. Twice during the condition's 19-month course deep jaundice developed, spontaneously subsiding to a state of mild icterus. Diagnosis was suggested by ultrasonography and scintigraphy, whereas retrograde cholangiography and arteriography did not contribute. At laparotomy a single large benign multilocular cyst was partially removed.
